My understanding is this (I could be wrong. I have been before.):
They aren't worried about your security (much). What they want to do with the verification number is prevent folks from using the kind of auto-clicking utility that used to be common. With an auto-clicker, you just went away and let your computer do the clicking. Advertisers weren't too thrilled since that meant clickers weren't looking at their sites.
So different programs use different means to foil the auto-clickers.
When you get the verification screen at Blink the number is random-generated and presented as a graphic, so the auto-clicker would (presumably) not be able to read the numbers and enter it for you. That just means a human has to be there to type in the four numbers. I couldn't say that it's impossible to start up an auto-clicker after that point. Apparently Blink believes it is.
