| I went to the site today to earn a few cents and here is what I found....... Grannymail is Bankrupt. ======================= I am sorry to announce that Grannymail.com is closing. The reason? I am simply out of money. As many of you know, Edward Stoever is the only person who runs this business, making the budget for development extremely tight. In order to support my wife and children, I simply have to close the website and go out of business. Access to address book. ======================= I realize that your address book may have information that you need. It is available to you from now through September 30, 2001. Refunds? ======== If you PURCHASED GrannyPostage you may be entitled to a refund, if your purchase meets all of the following requirements: 1. GrannyPostage that was won in the gaming parlor does NOT qualify for a refund. 2. You must have purchased the GrannyPostage in the past 6 months. 3. You must have purchased at least $3.00 MORE GrannyPostage than the value of any letters you sent after the purchase date. If you feel that you are qualified for a refund, please send an email to: [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] Personal Statement ================== In many ways, it is not easy for me to give up on grannymail.com. Afterall, I still believe it is a great service for people to send letters. When I opened the website, I was expecting thousands of people to send letters. At that time, the news was full of stories of internet millionaires. I couldn't have been more wrong. So, to improve usage, I added greeting cards and picture post cards. Then, I developed the games to get people to come back again and again. In some ways the games worked too well. People did return to the website again and again, but just as usage was increasing, companies that sold banner advertising were having a harder and harder time getting a variety of advertisers. So, even though we worked with 3 to 5 different advertising companies, they were all showing the same banners. A variety of banners is essential to get users to click the banners, and it is clear this has dried up. I would like very much to thank you for supporting grannymail over the past two years. I have received many compliments on the website. Many people wrote and told me it was their favorite website. Many people loved the website so much, they visited daily, and accumulated a lot of GrannyPostage. I am sorry I cannot send your letters, but my wife, children and I cannot afford this luxury any more. It costs far too much of my time, and we simply have no money to buy postage stamps or pay the server hosting, which alone costs roughly $3000.00 per year. Best wishes to you and yours, Edward Stoever THERE GOES my $35.00 I saved up for Christmas cards! SUCH IS LIFE!!!
