Tongue Upromise - rebates into a college fund for your kids!

Since everyone here is so skilled at getting a great bargain I thought you would appreciate hearing about this new-ish (as of 4/01, I believe) program. It is called Upromise.

UPromise works like any other online rebate program - paying you back a percentage of your total purchases as long as you shop through them - BUT, (here's the part I really like!) - instead of waiting eons and then getting a small check that may (or may not) get squandered, they deposit it into a college education fund for your kids. Another great thing is that you can get your family and friends (if they are willing, of course) to register, too, and their rebates will go to your children's education fund.

Another great thing is that its not limited to online purchases: since your credit card is registered they can track your purchases at B&Ms like AT&T, General Motors, Toys"R"Us, Babies"R"Us, Kids"R"Us, ExxonMobil, America Online,CVS/pharmacy, Borders Books and MusicŪ, WaldenbooksŪ, Staples and some real estate offices. AND over 7,000 restaurants nationwide (10% back!). I just found out McDonald's will be on board in November. Imagine getting paid for all those Happy Meals!

I won't waste space here describing the program in great detail, just visit upromise.com (will someone please make this clickable, I have a computer learning disorder). Basically the funds get depostied for you and grow - TAX DEFERRED (or tax Free depending on pending legislation) - until you withdraw for one or all of your children's college education needs.

There's an article from USA Today that also gives an overview of the program. Click/paste the following link to view:

I hope this helps someone! I joined a few weeks ago and found out my local drycleaner is a participant!
