| Hmmm?
AllThingsRewarded is fine on my end, but you are right about eVineyard ... Says "Hacked by Chinese". Which is probably not true, but those bored teenie boppers have to blame someone to make themselves look cool.

A virus through her server ... ??? I did All ThingsRewarded then Creation Rewards, then when off to do Blink and things started acting funny. (Not unusual for my system) Came here to check posts, went back to look at ALR and Milesource and then posted my reply and wham ... my computer went nuts, firewall alarms going off, etc. (again, not unusual). Restarted and now I am missing some files from AOL and IE keeps crashing ... I am NOT a happy camper right now, TG for my laptop as backup. I just reformatted my hd last week because of a virus (and I know better ... 20 years of 'puter geek here). Arrgghh Did she give any details? Thanks, Cheryl

Ok......i'm not going nuts then........ I emailed her back.....but no reply as of yet. My mail is messing up......and just got back in to DOD board. My screen is sticking half the time now. Maybe it's just a fluke.......but my puter is NOT working right. I will let you know what her reply is. I asked her in last email.....IF it would effect my puter at all.

Same thing going on at [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or

Best advice ... if you don't have a firewall GET ONE! Go to ZDnet.com and download ZoneAlarm. I use this (it's free) and back it with HackTracer (not free). Some defense is better than none. Hasn't always saved me, but the lo-pro hacks out there can't get in and I can find them when they try. LOL :-)

A lot of sites are being affected by this new worm. Perhaps these sites are too? [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now]

I just delete the ones I don't recognise. How do you know they isolated them? Cuz my email is free .....but not sure if they isolate them or not.

Email wise ... as long as you never open an email containing an attachment from someone you don't know you SHOULD be relatively safe. But contrary to popular belief, .exe files are not the only way to contract a virus through email. Something as small as a .jpg or .gif can contain a damaging virus. This Code Red worm is interesting though ... blamed on the Chinese, but I'd bet when (and IF) they track down the culprits they will be boys (late teens, early 20's) residing in the US. And why would they do it? Because they can! No other reason. Boredom is a dangerous thing. Have a great day, Cheryl

It's just a service my provider has started giving us. Bright Net is great! Mouse has it, too. I think it's only in Ohio and a few surrounding counties in neighboring states, but it is the largest ISP in the state of Ohio. Largest local provider, that is. |

'Code Red' Virus Aims at White House Web Site July 20, 2001 12:55 am EST By Elinor Mills Abreu LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A new Internet virus nicknamed "Code Red" appears to be programming thousands of computer drones to launch an all-out cyber attack on the White House Web site, security experts said on Thursday. The Code Red worm appears to instruct infected computers to launch a "denial of service" attack on the government Web site ([Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now]), of the kind that took down major Internet sites such as Yahoo! Inc. and eBay Inc. in February last year, analysts said. The worm defaces English-language Web sites hosted by the computers it infects, displaying the slogan "Hacked by Chinese!," the security experts said. The origin of the virus was not clear. The White House Web site, which is the home page for the Bush Administration, was still accessible as of Thursday evening. White House spokeswoman Jeannie Mamo said: "The White House has taken preventive measures aimed at minimizing any impact of ... the Code Red worm." A denial of service attack is intended to render the target site inaccessible to legitimate traffic by swamping it with requests for information. The Code Red worm could also slow overall Internet traffic by flooding the Web with message traffic from infected computers, according to Marc Maiffret, chief hacking officer at eEye Digital Security, a computer security company based in Aliso Viejo, California. Maiffret estimated that 12,000 computers around the world had been infected with the Code Red worm. A second estimate issued by the System Administration, Networking and Security Institute, a security research organization in Bethesda, Maryland, put the number of infected computers at about 200,000. Infected systems are likely to see their network performance degraded as a result of the scanning activity of the worm, a statement issued by the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) at Carnegie Mellon University said. The Code Red worm exploits a vulnerability in Microsoft Internet Information Server 4.0 and 5.0 and affects computers running Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000, CERT said. Maiffret and his colleagues discovered the vulnerability in June and Microsoft subsequently released a patch, which would prevent a computer from being infected with the worm, he said. "Even if you have done everything right your network connection could still be taken down because of the amount of data flooding you get from all of the other guys who hadn't applied patches and were infected by this worm," Maiffret said. A second worm discovered this week, called W32.Sircam, sends copies of itself to all email addresses in an infected computer's address book and can delete files and directories, fill up the hard disk and send files out to the Internet, according to statements released by Symantec Corp. and Network Associates Inc. Sircam, which has English and Spanish-language versions, has been found in more than 50 corporate networks worldwide, Network Associates said.
