This doesn't surprise me with all that's been going on with point programs lately. Freeride is down, maybe gone, memolink isn't, can't, fulfill their orders. Seems to be a trend lately. If I didn't count on these programs to buy birthdays and gifts (money is really tight as DH lost his job), I wouldn't do any of them anymore. At 10 points a day, My points just added 25 extra days to get a Target or Web cert.

Be careful about using the Fatshoe for these offers hezzel: Be careful about using your fatshoe for these types of offers. I just got done reading on another board that fatshoe is allowing these charges to go through and a lot of members now have negative balances. Fatshoe has notified them that they could be charged interest if the deficiet is not made up soon. I was shocked when I read these posts as I did not even know it was possible to go negative and apparently neither did these members. Fatshoe says that it is in their terms and conditions so you had better check it out. 1,000 pts is nice but a $79.95 charge is not nice.

Thanks for the heads up Dinah Here's what I found in the member agreement it doesn't make much sense? it says it will be decline and then says there could be an overdraft...seems kind of odd but who knows! If the amount of your purchase or transfer exceeds the current balance in your fatshoe account, your transaction will be declined because neither credit nor overdraft protection is extended through the fatshoe service. Also, because your fatshoe card is an off-line debit card, under certain circumstances it is possible for you to charge amounts that exceed your fatshoe account balance ("Overdraft"). In such circumstances, we will hold you liable for such Overdrafts and any associated fees that we may charge. We shall have no obligation under this Member Agreement to allow any Overdraft in your fatshoe account. If we inadvertently authorize a transaction that results in an Overdraft, you agree to repay in full, promptly upon our demand the amount of any and all Overdrafts, plus accrued interest thereon, if any, until paid in full at the highest rate permitted by applicable law, plus all reasonable attorney's fees, collection expenses and court costs and expenses to the extent permitted by applicable law. We reserve the right to terminate any fatshoe account in which the fatshoe account holder has attempted to charge goods and services that exceed the remaining balance in such fatshoe member's fatshoe account. ![]()

Unfortunately I found out the hard way that you can have a negative balance with your Beenz card, too. I am sitting with a balance on -$23.91 and have had NO luck in contacting Beenz to start the dispute process. I have over 3000 Beenz, that I really want to cash out, but I know I can't put them on my RewardzCard now. *sigh* What a mess. What to do ... What to do?? ![]()

webcertificate will also carry a negative balance And there is a $15 fee for doing so. As long as there was an authorization for the charge, and these trial things with a free membership for 30 days or something qualify, webcertificate will put the charge thru, and add the $15 "overdraft" fee. They also retain the right to put you in collections if the balance and fee are not paid. This is in the disclosure agreement. I'm not surprised others are doing it too.

a social security number is not needed to place someone in collections A collection agengy is a "hired hand". An address and name is oftentimes enough. When you have a contractor do work to your house, lawn service contracts, book and music clubs, etc. you do not give them a ss#, however, an agreement is signed stating the price to be paid, payment terms, etc. If not paid, the contractor can then sell your debit to a collection agency who trys to collect, rather than wasting his time in small claims court. In fact, one agency can sell you to another. The agency may pursue in court, thus requiring you give a ss# for court documents, or they may have their own intimidating lawyers requiring such information. At any rate, it's a long weighty drawn out process. If the collection agency does not collect, they can report you to one of the major credit rating bureaus, like TRW with your last known name and address. Another reason why it's so important to check your credit report yearly.

What a profound statement. I wish I had posted that. It sums it all up. csadesign: Here is what I did. First I wasted my time calling the beenz New York Office long distance at 212-725-7575 where I was rudely told to write to beenz support as 'it works if you follow the rules'. After that I contacted the Columbus Bank and Trust in GA as they are who issues the card. I started with [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] and [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] which is the email address for the department that issues the card. I got these addresses from [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] They turned me over to the company that they sub-contract the work out to at [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] I ended up emailing with [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now]. They sign their emails as Customer Service Card Services. I believe that I got a very fast response because I used FRAUD in my subject line and banks just hate that. The lesson I learned from all of this is that 'this sucks' and it takes mass hours to get anything straightened out when using these cute little plastic cards that are not really VISA/MC's at all. They just let us think that they are. All we are really doing is getting an identification card that allows us to draw out of the website's business bank account. This only works when they have money and when they want us to get access. This is clearly called out in their terms and conditions, we just don't read the small print and they count on that. The funny thing here is that the Beenz Rewardzcard is the only card that has ever been issued that is/was actually guaranteed by a real bank and is/was governed by Federal Banking rules. Webcertificates and Fatshoe cards are NOT governed by any rules other than what they state in there terms and conditions. If you go to the issuing bank's website you can read all about it - if you don't fall asleep first. ![]()
