I recently did a survey and I was sent a check for it. I was visiting my family and got the check when I returned. It said that it will expire after 30 days. This period is already passed. Can I do anyhting about it??

I never had the experience but my Mother has. A rebate checks had arrived after the expiration date (snail mail for sure) She called the rebate phone number and they sent her a new rebate replacement check right away. They can check to see if the original check was cashed and if not then they can replace it for you. I was surprised it was so easy but she told me she had done the same before when checks had been misplaced and she never had a problem. Good luck |

maizan06, also check with your state's treasurer. There are laws that vary by state on checks, coupons and gift certificates with expiration dates. In most states, this money must be turned over the to the state treasurer who then returns it to you through unclaimed property. I used to work with this law extensively and found that most companies don't even bother to understand this law. Try going to AskJeeves and looking for the web site for your state treasurer's department. That should get you started.

I would try to cash the check first anyway. Sometimes a bank will cash it. If they won't, then I would ask the company to reissue it.
