Hey Gang,

I have received some very thoughtful email on the subject of independent reps posting their deals on DoD. Before I move on to the main point, let me say this...

1) DoD is not run by some large corporation. It is owned by myself and one other individual. We, like you, sit in front of our computer many hours a day, often in our shorts and tshirts. We pay for hardware, software, bandwidth, mailing list services and more. We do NOT make a bunch of money on this site. It was first and foremost a labor of love. If we can make some cash out of it as well, all the better.

2) We do not OWE anyone anything. This service is provided to everyone without cost! We DO value your loyalty, however. I just want you to know that.

3) Our moderators are VOLUNTEERS. They are NOT PAID. They are NOT employees of the company. These people are just like you. They love a good deal and they love the people here. They do what they do out of the goodness of their heart! Please be nice to them, ok?

With that said, I have this announcement. Starting now, we are going to allow individual reps to post their offers on the From the Merchant's Mouth thread. Tupperware, Usborne, Mary Kay, Avon.. whoever and whatever. I am not concerned about losing revenue for any of these offers. I would encourage to use our links whenever possible.

One important thing is that we do not see a bunch of bickering between reps. I have no problem with competition between reps. No one person is THE DoD rep for any company. The playing field is leveled. However, all posts must be made in this forum. Therefore, if you want to offer your deals, it must be done here. And people who aren't interested don't have to visit this forum.

Thank you Mayor. I was one who was upset to see the Tupperware consultant posts go. I will link through DOD and a consultant as we said we could, the next time I make a purchase. I just wish I was in the market for some Tupperware - my cabinets are full from last years haul !!!! I saw the deals posted at other sites, as well as here though - so I don't owe DOD anything either - but I like it here the best. Thanks for listening Mayor and being big enough to change what had been done. DOD really is the best!!!!

Cool. I say the more the merrier too !!!

One thing I've noticed about some of the companies you mentioned (won't say which ones!) is that consultants pay out big money to those companies to be reps for them, and then sometimes the corporation UNDERCUTS their own reps!!! I know I have gotten emails offering free shipping, discounts, etc, and I think, wow that is very .... well for lack of a better word, 'crappy' of the corporation to do that to the very people who are out there every day representing their product, either trying to make a living at it or trying to earn some extra money, and here is the CORPORATION undercutting their efforts like that...the very CORPORATION(s) that vow up and down that they will support you when they are trying to get you to make the investments and sign up with them.

That is extremely tacky of those companies that do that, and if you are a consultant that this is happening to, you need to band together and as a group BLAST the company for doing that, and be prepared to drop that company en masse.

Anyway I got a full rant going there, I just wanted to say thanks DOD and Mayor for letting the reps market themselves fairly.
