| Mods - if this is deemed inappropriate for this board, feel free to remove it. If this prompts the inclusion of a new board for this type of stuff, cool. Feel free to move this there. To everyone else! I recently found some programs on the internet that I think are really cool. I'll give the links here - I don't think they cost money, but for those of you that want to do this yourselves, I wouldn't want to take that joy away from you. I'll list those links at the end of the post. The programs that I downloaded have the capability to open a executable file (winfile.exe, for example) and let you modify the resources in it without recompiling it. For those of you that don't understand tech speak, the program will let you modify another program with very little effort. If you want to rename a menu option, you can do that. If you want to exchange the picture of the designer in the program for yours, you can do that. There is lots of stuff that you can do, most of what I haven't gotten into. But, I have followed other's leads and modified windows a bit and think that it's very cool. Now, I'd be willing to do this for other people in my spare time (every night, from around 5 to whenever I stay awake ) For those of you that are asking, "Is that legal? I mean, some of these software programs come with things that say you can't decompile, etc. the programs." I'd say that I'd like to stay away from modifying those programs - since I wouldn't be decompiling them for cracking purposes, I don't see how that would be a problem, but we'll stay away from those. "What does that leave then??" Well, got a freeware program that has a horrid splash screen? Want to put a picture of your honey or kids up there to look at for 20 seconds while the program starts? Fine, I can do that. Lots of other stuff, too. For those of you using mIRC, you could put your picture in the place of they guy who wrote the program..."Fool your friends, amaze your neighbors!" Etc, etc. I just thought that some other people out there might be into this kind of thing...I'm not looking to make a living off of this - for those of you that want to do it yourself, it's not too dangerous... As long as you make backups (the program does as well) you should be fine.So there it is - if you'd be interested in this sort of thing, or want to see screen shots, just private message, email, or meet me in chat (or you can post back to this.) Again to the mods - if you feel there is a problem with legality to what I'm doing (I'm in IT, and feel that I have a pretty good handle on stuff, but it's your board Mayor...) then I just won't do it. Period. Just trying to make you happy ![]() For those of you looking in the "cool programs" department - I recently ran across a demo of a program called "AdDelete." This one appears to be one of the better cookie-denying ad-removal programs. This automatically parses through the web pages that you download, denying advertisements (banner ads) or cookies if you so desire. the url for that one is: [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] Okay - I could only find a link to one of them...a new version just came out and I'm going to be checking it out. I like this one the best. Click the following to download the freeware Resource Hacker: [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] The other program is called eXeScope. It does the same sort of stuff. The shareware version is 6.10, copyrighted by "Toshi" That's the best I can do for that one. I'd recommend using [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] or [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] if you want to find that one.
