Hi charlie240 & welcome to DOD!  This is the best place to look for bargins - if you want the feel of shopping without spending any money, then don't forget to stop by the Found A Freebie forum. You'll find an extensive list of the best freebies - things for you, your wife & your kids. Most of us have done our holiday & birthday shopping on very minimal budgets - and I managed to buy not only for my 5 but also for a few charity groups and spent at least 75% less than in previous years when I only had 3 to buy for. Also, don't forget to check out Frugal Living & General Chit Chat - both have some wonderful ideas for living on a tight budget.
