Re: Introduction

Hello & welcome to the board.

I have a question. We have this problem with the older kids schools. They send homework home where the child has to have a computer to complete it. What do you do if the child dosen't have a computer. I have always wanted to ask a teacher that lol I know several people that don't have a computer and their child suffers bc of it. Around here we have to drive 30 minutes to get to the library. Anyway I was just courious.

Re: teaching w/o computer

yes i know some teachers who have very high expectations. teachers need to be aware of their audience (i use the term audience cause i think teaching is like a stage - but that's another long story). teachers should provide options for assignments like this... can be written, typed, or have a computer printout. if didn't show student how to do any of the 3, i can't hold them to turning in what i want. i'd spend time in the computer lab - check if it was available after school or during the day for student use. i'd make it a point to be there to help.

Re: teaching w/o computer

Hi,
Welcome to DoD! I also had the same question as for kids in our town who don't have computers and truly, every house does not have one, the library in out town is out as they can't afford them either. That leaves going to another town to do your research, not that I don't think "some" computer" learning is good, but aren't there classes in that in the higher grades?
IE: Computer Science? And that, here where I live, is who the school computers are available for. What grade do you teach? Interesting concept, but hard-to-impossible for many......
