Free Pop Up Stopper

barbaralarry,
I hate pop-ups like everyone, but I found a great FREE software program that is downloadable to stop the popups when they appear. I even chose a "gunshot" sound effect so I know it works because that little gun noise goes off a lot.
Sometimes it closes windows that I want up, but then I just double click the icon on my toolbar to turn the program "off" and then I can turn it back on whenever.
I used to use this other pop up system and it worked great but they went out of business. So now I'm trying this one. Hope it is helpful to y'all.
The FREE one is NOT the 30-day free trial one but the one at the bottom of the page called the basic pop-up stopper (not a trial).

Have a great day everyone. Good to see we can all overcome misunderstandings!

Popup stopper software

I second the Popup stopper software. This software is free, it works, and allows you to select if you want a popup by holding the control key to override. The wife and I use it and it works well.

Love My pop-up filter

I recently bought a pop-up ad filter from Meaya software. It was $25, but worth every penny. It beeps when it catches the ads and logs them so you can look at who is trying to annoy you. You can also make a list of any pages you don't want the filter to affect. I tryed a couple free ones and thought they sucked. Didn't try the one you guys mentioned. It sounds pretty good, but you still have to jump through a few hoops. Either way, if you get it free or pay, POP UP FILTERS ARE NOW A NECEsSITY !!!!

p.s. gator blows, i agree

i work with the public helping them use computers, and it is so hard to teach them about the internet with all these advertisements that look like legitimate windows messages like "you have an email message waiting" or "warning: your computer is running slow" or whatever.

the moral values of greed are just not the best moral values in the world.

by the way, the popup supressors don't work well on public computers because many legitimate websites, like this one, i think, use new (popup) browser windows as a way of navigating to the next site. experienced people might know that the link isn't working due to the supressor, but novices have no clue.

its just sad that people just getting onto the internet have to deal with these companies complicating things to the point of absurdity.
