I personally find the DOD ads in our posts quite annoying.

I believe this is the new trend in advertising - "blending it in seamlessly". We'll be seeing products and ads within movies and TV shows, and apparently woven into places we go online as well, like here. It's all pretty sickening, but I suppose the advertising revenue is attractive and/or necessary for lots of businesses.

yeah, its sad... i'll agree with that.

when we provide people with no "social" values by teaching them from birth that "profit" and selfishness are the guiding principles of our economic society... this is what happens...

I don't know if you can avoid the ads or not, but if not, is it really so bad?

lol.. just the mere mention of the link popped up an 8 ** . com ad

no its not too bad... we have been told over and over that freedom of speech is SUPPOSED to be nonexistant here.

popup ads and spyware and adware are really the evil beings of this discussion, i think. DOD has "mini-popup ads" which seems ok.. or less evil....well... unless we act as if good and evil are absolutes... as in America vs. the latest evil empire... .....

heck.. i'm liberal.. i can take it.

or my name ain't gator

Love your new signature joemuseum!
LOL!
Personally, I don't mind DoD putting the links/ads at the bottom of our posts. Anything that will help the site stay around is fine with me. I know mayor isn't making a mint having this site and isn't independently wealthy, so I don't mind reminders to help them out when I can. Just my humble opinion of course!

BTW, thanks for the Amazon codes. Gonna have to go shop there later!

joemuseum, you are just too funny!!!!!!

Even if they're annoying, I do have to agree with stking. If it's necessary to keep the site going, then it's really not that offensive. We'll get used to seeing them, then they won't bug us as much.

What is the big deal with some links showing up under our posts? This is a site we visit for free, right? Free deals, free chat, free games, free e-mail, great people, great friends.... I really don't understand what the problem is.

I see this new feature from both sides....for one thing I think it is approiate in the deals forum, freebies etc, but maybe NOT in other forums (like prayer requests, games etc.)

I do however, like the feature very much in this forum. I mean how many times have you seen a deal posted here and then 5 or 6 posts after it with people saying "cool deal, do they have any codes, what about free shipping" DOD has elimated this somewhat with this new feature.

Hats off to DOD for working on this, you did a great job!

Isn't it fun to see a potentially bad situation turn for the good! I really enjoy the chat between all the DOD members on all the forums. I truly understand Joemuseum's points and thank him muchly for the education he offered on the subject. Like MrsLisP and even Joemuseum has said the adds that appear at the bottom of our post are not nearly as annoying as "pop-ups" or the new "pop-unders" yet to a new comer to DoD it might appear as though the person placing the post had a financial connection to the DodAdware.... to some this wouldn't matter...yet I am sure DoD can understand to others this would cause concern. Like Barbarlarry I hate pop anythings in my face..... I seen a fabulous sign on a car dealership door once that said "Sales people not welcome.... if I want it I'll call you" To most of us that applies to all sales pitches be it from telephone solitations to pop-up/unders. Joemusuem thank you for the Amazon codes, for sharing your web-page, and for the education this thread has given me. =)

For Barbaralarry and all the rest of you who are under pop up attack:

To escape the onslaught of pop up windows, hit your Escape key. That will stop
your browser in its tracks, and kill the pop up windows. This is a tip I picked up
in a newsletter. Nifty, huh?

kilmuir, thanks for the tip! Although I have been lucky to rarely have a problem with pop-ups, I am sure your tip will be handy in my future, and that of other readers!

Big thanks to JoeMuseum, who I have always liked & appreciated, and for his compassion for our misunderstanding.

DOD is a great place with great people.
