For those of you thinking about using priceline.com to save money on gas... I've found that Priceline's prices are a day or two behind the actual pump prices. Thus the best time to buy gas at priceline.com is when gas prices have just taken a large jump forward in price. For example, gas was $1.25 here two days ago. Yesterday prices jumped up to $1.37. I went to priceline.com tonight and they had the average price in my area listed as $1.25. So I bought 20 gallons at $1.14 and saved 23 cents. Also, to get an automatic "Yes" answer you usually need to bid one cent higher than the "fair chance" price. To get a "maybe" you can go as low as 20 cents. Sometimes they're more generous, but those are the numbers I've seen work the best. And remember, the first 3 months are free. After that there's a $3/month surcharge! - Kelly . BE CAREFUL! Just a warning...Priceline is not up to date on ther gas stations. The gas station they said I "had to go to" to recieve my price did not even exist!!! It took me a long time to get a refund of my money and 8 emails and a threat to call the States attornies office to report fraudulant business practices before I could get a response on my emails. And you can not speak to anyone on their voice line about the gas...now yesterday the same thing happened to my friend as far as the nonexistant gas station and it was in a whole different city! so please be careful! |

Oh and one of the ways to ensure you get the best possible prices... travel around to the gas stations closest to you, make a mental note of their prices, and when you pick 3 gas stations from your list, pick the 3 that have the cheapest prices (and that way you will ensure that you're picking gas stations that actually exist too).

The best thing about priceline is they let over pump 4.99 gallons without charging you a penny. So if you purchase 10 gallons you get 4.99 gallons for free. Now that's really half off never mine saving up to 20 cents a gallon. |

You can overpump and get free gas? Please explain.... Is that a glitch? I figured that priceline gas to be a big scam. $3 a month, and I have to drive out of the way, all to save about $5 a month. |

Since I could not find any phone #'s on their web site, I got a phone number for priceline's gasoline program from one of the participating gasoline stations here. It is for retailers, but you can get transferred to their customer service dept. from there That # is 1-800-678-6800.

I received an email that they were discontinuing the $3 surcharge. Makes it much more appealing.
quote:
Originally posted by kpickell: For those of you thinking about using priceline.com to save money on gas... [QUOTE]Originally posted by FinePrintReader: [B]You can overpump and get free gas? Please explain.... Is that a glitch? [QUOTE] You get a penalty if you pump 5 gals. or more over what you paid for. I'm not sure I'd keep overpumping to just below 5 gals.... I imagine the Priceline folks would get pretty upset if you made that a habit. |

The thing I don't understand... why are people picking gas stations that they aren't familiar with? You shouldn't ever have to end up traveling large distances, and you shouldn't ever end up with a gas station that doesn't exist because in order to save money with priceline.com you should be picking gas stations near your home that you know have cheap prices. I'm not excusing priceline.com for not having updated station lists, and I'm not excusing them for their apparent lack of customer support, but really, you really should only pick gas stations near you that you know have cheaper than average prices. |

first of all...I live in a little of a remote area so I dont exactly know all the address of the gas stations to know where they all are..so I picked streets that were familiar to me! Thats the best I could do. The on they sent me to there was not even a building there...now come on..its not like they just took the pumps out a few months ago there simply was no station at all!!! And it is still Priceline's responsibilty to make sure they exist...my best advice is, in my experience if there is no phone number to go with the station address that it probably doesn't exist! So make sure you have a phone number!!! |

I used Priceline.com to buy gas twice. If you read the policy on pumping over, they say up to 4.99 gals they will charge you what you contracted for, for 5.00 and above they will charge you the going rate at the gas station.

I did overpummed a little a couple weeks ago and haven't been charged yet, but priceline does take a while to refund/charge price differences. I guess I'll find out in a week or so whether they charge for overpumping. And I haven't heard anything about them dropping the $3 fee. I hope they do, someone mentioned hearing about it, but I still haven't heard it. Anyways, I'm enjoying priceline, and my fingers are crossed about these extra things. I guess some people like it and some people don't. Oh well. ![]() -= K/ |
