| Weekend vacations around New York City?
Anyone know of affordable vacations in the norht east? I live in New York City and hate spending my weekends here after I've slogged at work for 5 days. Looking to get out of town (preferrably something within driving distance). Not beach weather yet and not warm enough for camping either. Can someone suggest things? |

Don't know if Atlantic City is your thing, but figured I'd throw it out there. If you don't want to stay at the casinos, you can try a place called The Irish Pub. It's a neat little place with clean, cheap rooms. Cheack out [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] There are more things to do in Atlantic City than the casinos, BTW. You can check out the newly opened lighthouse and walk the boardwalk. I'll try to think of more things in the area. What about Connecticut? Boston is really nice and wouldn't be too awful a drive from NYC. There's a place called the Copley House that is relatively inexpensive compared to other hotels in the city. Copley is actually more of a studio apartment, so you have an oven and a frig. Some units even have a parking space, which I think costs about $7 extra per day. This is all I can think of off the top of my head. I'll see if I can't think of some more ideas. Good luck!

We just got back from AC - a quick 2 hr 15 min drive from Brooklyn. You can stay in AC - go to the local winery - right off the Garden State exit 40. You can also travel further south to Cape May - walk around the area - beautiful Victorian houses. Also they have tours - went to a turn of the century doctor's Victorian house - very interesting and beautiful. They also have a shopping mall (without cars) - some very unique and cute shops. You can also go the the Ferry Terminal in Cape May - go to Delaware - they supposedly have good outlet shops. When you return to AC - you can have a nice leisurely dinner and some gambling. The rooms in the casinos are beautiful.

| Leavin' the city on the weekends...
A lot of people like AC...that's great. I dont know if any of you are from NYC but if you are, Mohegan Sun is very nice too. I was there two weekends ago and ended up having more fun. I think I am going to try Cape Cod next weekend. I hear its close and very beautiful. This weekend, I am golfing and going to the Belmont Fair! Thanks everyone for the suggestions.... And as for visiting Ohio, dont know when I'll be there but I can help you find a cheap place in NY if you are here =) |

Another place to visit within driving distance is Mystic Seaport - we did that a couple of years ago and then went to Mohegan Sun Casino and Foxwoods.
