Just got this from a press release from the Kentucky tourism cabinet. It's their newest tourism promotion... Quote:

| Wish Kroger had better prices
Although the Kroger Superstore in Danville is very nice with good selections, the items I routinely buy are about 25-40% cheaper at Walmart. I only buy items there that are on sale, or that I can't find at Walmart. I buy plate lunches there some, and if I just need a couple of items, I'll go there and use the self checkout. I haven't spent $40 at Kroger forever. I guess I won't be getting a travel guide. |

| I can understand that...
mossie, Do you live in Danville? Wow, it's a small world, huh?! I shop at Wal-Mart in Frankfort more than I do Kroger too, but I always keep an eye out for good sales there and just do my shopping there when they have one. It doesn't take much to spend $40 these days, especially on groceries!

| hey there, fellow ky-ians!
thanks for post, hopeless! mossie, i'm surprised w/ the double coupons, kroger isn't cheaper. (or don't they do that in danville?) actually, i rarely spend $40 at once. i'm a "pop in on the way home" girl. i use the kroger "upons", and my produce man saves all the scratch and dent veggies for me, so i usually get out way cheap. anyway, loss leaders are the things advert'ed on front page. the really cheap things? kroger doesn't make any $$ on them, but they bring you in to shop. maybe i'll talk to my store mgr and convince him to give me a book.... paula.

Oops, sorry HopelessinKY, the term "loss leader" is the insider term for placing ads for items with really great prices, sometimes prices that they take a "loss" at, only to hopefully have you buy their profit-gorged items. This week milk here in NKY was $1.49/g at Kroger but $1.99/g and higher everywhere else near me. Also quasi-cheap Pampers (9.99/jumbo) and lotsa 2/1 things made it a good trip. Kentucky visit guide was OK, glad to see Kentucky is putting a good foot forward about tourism, im about tired of only hearing about the Rt. 127 longest yard sale... |
