| Kmart B&M New Return Policy - Chapter 11?
I think they are doing everything they can to keep from going under. This may save them dollars in fraudulent returns but it's certainly not going to welcome customers... Effective January 14, 2002 A receipt dated within 90 days is required for ALL returns and exchanges. It may be necessary to ask for identifications for any return transaction. Returns and exchanges without a receipt WILL NOT be accepted. All returns and exchanges must be in the original packaging and contain all the original accessories. Some items, including musis, movies, computer software, video games, and sports/toy collectibles cannot be returned if they have been opened. Also, air conditioners and gas powered equipment must be returned (with the original sales receipt) within 30 days of purchase. Purchases made by check will be refunded as a Kmart Cash Card. We reserve the right to limit or refuse to accept the return of certain products. If an item is defective and you do not have the receipt you have to call their Manufacturer's warranty and repair line at 1.800.434.8438. ***************************************** I am unaware of Kmart printing out gift receipts so I'll definitely never buy a gift for anyone there, unless I'm 100% sure the person can use the item. I've heard rumors that they aren't going to survive this next year and will probably be going out of business.... I did find a few good deals there this morning though, thanks to previous posts about blanket sleepers and batteries! Also, they had an additional 30% off all their clearance apparel. And their Christmas stuff is now 75% off. Last edited by HortonWho; 01-16-2002 at 09:33 PM. |

I agree, it does not look good for K-Mart. Well, at least not where I live. I live right between two towns. In both towns are Wal-Mart and K-Mart. Wal-Mart is always crowded, K-Mart hardly has any customers. Personally, I don’t like K-Mart because their service sucks, no matter where I go.

my local kmart also sucks. The deals are good but I hate going there and only shop there if I can't pass up on the deal. And I think their new return policy will not help at all, worse than target's new policy too. I think both will end up losing business and I hope they wisen up and change them back. LM |

I know! I was just there and used the self service check out thingy. The shoes were on sale (athletic shoes only perhaps) for buy one pair, get one 50% off. Well, it didn't ring up correctly, so the person that comes when I pushed help tried to convince me (after counting on her fingers no less. ok so I do that sometimes) that it was correct. I added it up with my calculator to be sure and told her no it was not right so she fixed it after that. Well, stuff like that happens but I don't want to overpay because of it. Mandy |

A few weeks ago I went to our K-Mart to get a roll of film. I looked in the photo department and found film that was expired for 18 months!! I told the sales clerk, he said he knows and has also told his department manager. But that department manager does not care. So I went to the assistant store manager and told her what the sales clerk told me. She promissed to take care of it. To make a long story short. I went to K-Mart a couple of days ago for a return (go figure) and thought to stop by the photo department and see if they still have the old film out and sure enough it was still there. Only now it hung in the first row and when I discovered it it hung on the bottom row.

I like the Kmart here. Walmart has really lousy service and is always crowded. Kmart's service is about the same, but it's never as crowded, so at least I don't have kids running me over with shopping carts. No lie, I was kicked in the chest by some pre-teen trying to climb into a cart last time I went to Walmart! I like a lot of their products too. I seem to find more that I like there than at Walmart or Target. Sad to see their return policy go the way of Target. Unfortunately, I think we're about to see more of that in the future. What's weird is that at my store, we're still ordered to do whatever it takes to make the customer happy. Isn't that the way it should be? Sad that the few have to ruin it for the many. Jackie

| my 2 cents worth...
i think a big problem with a lot of these stores is that they are "penny wise but pound foolish" they pay the lowest wages, and are sexist in their hiring practices(mostly women sales clerks, mostly men managers,) and in general, may give the public a good deal but are pretty lousy when it comes to treating their sales personnel right. i guess after a while no one gives a hoot. it's too bad.

Here, Kmart gives decent service, has a really clean store, and people will try and help if they can. Walmart has the poor service here. The store is never really neat, you can't find prices (scanners are far and wide), and employees would rather you not buy something than to go out of there way at all to help you. Not all of them of course, just the one you find when you really need what you're looking for and don't have the time to check every other store. |

All we have is Wal-Mart (a small one at that). I shop there so much that I am familiar with many of the employees, so I know if there is someone's line that I should avoid. They have some really nice people working for them that have helped me through numerous shopping experiences with two grumpy babies. They also have the typical ones that can't add two and two! I think it is every where you go anymore! Doesn't matter the name of the store. My last experience at Kmart(an hour away) the CSM lady bit my head off on three particular instances about making a return after xmas. I then tried the price match with the leap frog products. MAN WHAT A MISTAKE!! The checker picked up the mindstation and just walked off without saying a word. 10 minutes later she came back witht the excuse "We don't price match with the internet" I watched her talk to two other ladies and then have to make a phone call before they could find out what their "policy" (excuse) was! |
