I did this over a year ago (deal from half.com, same mag company, I think) and.... called in about 6 months to cancel. They tried to convince me to continue, of course. I had three magazine subscriptions to them so I insisted on canceling one to check it out. They canceled it with no problem. Then..oddly......I lost the credit card I had put all the subscriptions on. I forgot about the whole thing, and no doubt they would have charged the credit card at the end of the year for the next years subscription (even then you are supposed to be able to call them at any time and cancel and receive a prorated amount back or the full amt within 15 days, you are being charged for the next years subscription, the first year is free) Anyway, because I had lost my credit card during the year and the number had changed, they couldn't charge me. Oddly... I am still getting one of the magazines. I called and asked to cancel my magazines and they said they were already canceled because of "a credit card problem." It was then I realized I had lost the card during the year.

Anyway, thought I would add my experience. It seemed like it was all on the up and up. The customer service people were only slightly pushy but very nice and forthcoming. When I canceled the first mag after six months, I said "Well... I was just wondering if this was some kind of magazine subscription ripoff like you see so often." The lady said that, "Oh no.... this is not a ripoff. I will cancel anything you want and you will not be charged. I was just reminding you that you had 6 months to go." I then asked for the absolute last date I could cancel. She figured it up. Seems like this would be a smart thing to ask and then cancel about a month early so there would be little chance of it getting to your credit card... or..... get lucky enough to lose your credit card and have the number changed during the year...

Got this from a pop-up window trivia question...answered correctly, got another pop-up window with the points.

We're getting several subscriptions (Parents, PC World, Soap Opera Digest, Soap Opera Weekly, Better Homes and Gardens) so they DO come! Haven't hit renewal point, so not yet sure how that goes, but I'll probably be cancelling.
