Question

I am trying to prove to my parents that shopping online can save you a lot of money. So they are testing it out by trying to find the best deal on a 27" TV. They aren't too picky about the brand, but I would like it to be a good one - Sony, Zenith, etc. Can someone help? I would love to be able to combine ebates and dash as well.

Do you know what kind of features they're looking for on the TV? I imagine they want a stereo TV, but do they want surround sound? Do they need the v-chip? What about picture-in-a-picture? The price is going to depend a WHOLE lot on exactly which features they want.

The best prices I got (including factoring in coupons and ebates) were from Mercata. If they do the new user $100 Mercata credit promotion to take 20% off their prices, I found these two TVs to be *great* deals (amts. rounded because I'm lazy!):

$290 ($299.01 current price plus $49 shipping less 20% credit of $5 - RCA model F27664. Offers picture-in-picture, stereo (not surround), 680 lines resolution, CC, sleep timer, Guide Plus+. 7/27 at 10pm PDT is the ordering cutoff.

$321 ($337.98 current price plus $49 shipping less 20% credit of $66) - Philips Magnavox model TP2784C. Offers PIP, stereo with IncredibleSurround, 800 lines resolution, CC, sleep timer, V-chip. The deadline for ordering is tonight (7/25) at 10pm PDT.

How do those prices compare to what you can find off the 'net? You have to make sure to check for similar features. I can tell you that the Philips Magnavox TP2784C sells for $350 before tax at Wal-Mart.

If you just want a basic, stripped-down but name-brand TV, you ought to be able to beat these prices by $30 to $50.

Good luck!

Only thing in getting a TV on the internet is the shipping will eat you up!! Walmart or circuit city is probably your best bet!

I always do well at Price Club (or Costco). I know Costco is online but I do not know what shipping will run (plus if anything goes wrong, they tae it back, not questions asked--even if you missplaced the receipt).

Another brick-and-mortar deal: Service Merchandise (at least mine in Baton Rouge) is offering 30% off their TVs to close out their TV department. They have some great deals but selection's getting sparse.
