Son took advantage of the specials before, when running the promos, signed each member of family up w/ account. Great deal here if you watch DVDs alot(we do)--even if you dont do more than a month. But since, has started buying and building collection. (DVDs sell great on EBAY if you ever get in a bind!)Did the Columbia House promo posted on Anandtech. |

| Other promo for DVDs?
I have been thinking of trying the Netflix thing. I live in the Midwest too, but as someone said, at $4.99 a pop to rent them, it is worth it. JCrosby, what is this: Did the Columbia House promo posted on Anandtech. Johnna |

I LOVE Netflix! They have a wonderful selection and I had excellent luck with shipping times, etc. when I was a member. The only reason my husband and I cancelled after a few months is that we rarely spend $20/month on rentals and with a new baby we just couldn't find the time to watch all the movies that were sent to us... so the fee, as reasonable as it is, was just impractical for us. However, I recommend it to anyone who has a DVD player and loves movies! It can be a huge money-saver compared to renting from, say, Blockbuster where their selection isn't always great. This was odd, though... last week I went to their site, just to look around after a few months of not visiting. I didn't order any movies, I didn't create a list, NOTHING. The only thing I did was visit the My Account page because I vaguely remembered them charging me for an extra month right before I cancelled last year. About 10 minutes later I got an e-mail that basically said, "Thank you for registering with Netflix. Your credit card on file will be charged $19.95. Please tell us what movies you'd like us to send." HEL-LO??? I e-mailed them immediately and explained that I had NOT re-registered but THEY HAD ALREADY CHARGED MY CARD!! Isn't that just weird? A couple days later I saw the charges had been reversed, no harm done... but now I'm afraid to even go to the site anymore! Other than that... I think Netflix is a wonderful program. I saw a lot of rare movies that I couldn't have found anywhere locally, and the prepaid return envelopes made it so easy to get them back on time! |

I wasn't so thrilled with Netflix. After joining when they were offering the first month free, I found that more than half of my selections weren't available. What's the point of getting put on a waiting list for a movie I want NOW? Joined Blockbuster's Rewards program ($10/year) instead. Mondays-Wednesdays when I rent one movie, I get one of their "Favorites" VHS movies free. Basically, Favorites just means their older titles. Plus, once a month I get a coupon for a free new release. |

I've been a member of Netflix since last July. When I first signed up (when you were able to get 4 out at a time) we thought it was great. We are on the east coast and it is definitely slow service- about a 10 day turn around from when I put them in the mailbox at the post office, but every movie- even new releases were available back then (unlike Blockbuster). The last couple of months however, the majority of the movies that I've put on my "rental queue" come up as "long wait". In fact, out of 14 movies only 3 were available to ship and many of these were older movies. I had actually planned on canceling this past month, but didn't think about it until the day of my renewal which would mean that I would be charged for the entire month (no proration) of service. I do intend to cancel next month unless there is a big change in their movie availability status.

Or open a secondary shipping location on the East coast. I like the service but the wait sucks! The DVD's are always clean and mostly new. Another competitor on the East coast is what they need to wake them up!.. |
