Thumbs down

I don't post that often, maybe I Shouldn't. I just have to tell you what's on my mind and how I feel. Some might say this is not the right place, I feel it is. It has to do with the onslaught of the Mayor's postings. I could be wrong, please clarify. I thought this was the community board. I understand that Deal Of Day owns the board and I realize their need to get "Credit" for the purchases thought their links. The thing that bothers me is that the quantity of posts from the Mayor is looking more like a Spam board I won't mention and stop going to.
I came to Deal Of Day because of the quality and interaction with members on the message boards. Even though I don't post alot, I still read. I now have to sift through the mirage of posts from Deal Of Day. I thought that was what the main page was for and all links associated with DealOfDay.com. Like I said, I'm sorry if anyone takes offense, I just think it's time for me to move on. There use to be alot of sites I visited and stop going to for this reason. Just when the posting gets good and the members fill up, the site starts pumping all their deals on the message boards. Kind of like drowning out everyone else. One or two post I can deal with, sifting through all the Mayor's Post's is annoying. And you can tell from the page views on the posts that interest is not that great.
Sorry , Bye.

Julie since you're gone you probably won't read this, but what the hey. What's happening is that the deals we post on our main page are automatically being sent to the message boards. We got the impression that a lot of folks on our boards didn't even know about the rest of our site, with all its great deals and coupons and might like to have access to the latest and greatest without having to even leave the message boards. Sure, we need to make a little dinero to keep the site running, but the convenience to our visitors was a factor as well. No one is under any obligation to click on any of those deals of course, and I'm sorry if seeing those posts offends you.

I may be opening a can of worms here (oh heck that's never stopped me before! ), but I'd be interested to know what the rest of you folks think. Is having each day's new deals posted to the boards a good idea? Does it bug you? Or don't you care? And do you all visit our main pages, or just stick to the message boards? Thanks in advance for your opinions.

My objection to all of Mayor's posts was that someone else's post was quickly getting moved to the next page. Too much of the first page was taken up by Mayor. So here's a suggestion. Can all of Mayor's posts....which I gather are from the main page....all be posted on one thread? Maybe the subject could be Mayor's Main Deals or something. That way DOD still gets its clicks and everyone has a shot at not getting bumped to the second page in a matter of hours.

The deals are posted on the Internet Deals forum because they are all internet deals! They certainly couldn't be construed as spam. We are placing them in the forums so that they will now be searchable along with the rest of the deals. Seems to me like deal hunters would be interested in all the deals that are out there. So, we aim to please!

Also, these posts will always appear within a couple hours time each evening as the following day's deals are entered. The boards are busiest during the day, so these posts shouldn't intrude on regular deals posted.

Happy shopping!

Mayor

Personally, I liked it better when Mayor's posts (the deals from the main page) were in their own forum on the bulletin boards. I don't like them jumbled in among the posts everyone else make. Just my opinion.

I do visit the main page every day so I see these deals there, too.

You asked.

We could learn a lot from crayons: some are sharp, some are pretty,
some are dull, some have weird names, and all are different colors....but
they all exist very nicely in the same box.

Just my personal constitutionally protected opinion - I would prefer the posts were NOT here in this forum.

Ok, now let me amplify my question. If you don't like the DealofDay posts here, WHY? Do you feel they are preventing people from posting, and if so WHY? If they just bug you, WHY?

If it helps any, let me explain that I add the new deals to our main page every night, usually between 9:00pm and 11:00pm or so. So that is when the posts go onto the boards. As the Mayor mentioned, the boards are most active in the daytime hours, so we figured all the new posts you all would put up would just push our posts down naturally. That was our intention. And we thought people would like having MORE deals.

I just want to understand what the real source of the problem is so that we can approach it logically. In my mind, the boards belong to us and are ours to do with as we choose, but without the good will of our members, that means nothing. All your opinions are important and appreciated.

I am brand new here and if you will allow me, I will add my opinion..
I do not know what it "used" to be like. Therefore I have no basis to compare the "old" procedures to the "new" procedures.
But currently it seems like a really nice board and I am happy to have joined.
I am of course here searching for deals and it does not matter to me who posts that deal as long it gets posted where I am likely to see it!!
I do have a habit of only looking at the first page..or maybe the second..because on most boards anything past page 2 is stale.
I have developed this habit because if it was "fantastic" news and a "great deal" it would have enough replies to have kept being bumped to page one, no matter how many posts were added after it.

I really don't have a gripe. I look at the main pages every day. I don't mind the posts in the forum either though. However I do all my surfing, usually, between 8 and 11 p.m. so I get to see them as they come. LOL

Unhappy I agree...

I don't mean to complain - I love DoD - can't go one day without checking the forums - but I do agree with the other posters so far that all those posts are annoying. And alot of them just don't pertain to many of us (I believe). I get the impression that most of us are looking for great deals (like the $4.99 baby monitor) and when we do then we will shop online. However, $40 off of $200 or 10% off of $250 or even $30 off of $150 isn't going to do anything for me. I do scan the home page everyday so I have already seen those offers. That's not what I'm looking for - I'm looking for the toys that are 70% off at Etoys, or the 39 cent misfit ornaments at CVS, or...you know what I mean. And I do believe many other DoDers are the same way. Just my opinion...

KattMattMom, I am very happy you find things you want.

Now I am an older adult, my son is 30, "Baby and kids things" are useless to me..but hey give me a good Staples deal and I am on it!!!

This board has many different kinds of people looking for many different kinds of things.

So every type of sale will not be perfect for everyone everytime,
but it might be perfect for some of the people some of the time.

when you look at it that way, every post is important to someone.

Okay Stachmo, here's my opinion:
I agree with Jsalba and I agree with katemattmom. The way the boards were before, it was usually an exceptional deal that led to someone posting here, even if it was already on the front page of DOD. Now, it is hard to tell the great from the so-so when they are all in this same forum. I understand the motivation for doing this and I think it is a good idea as long as it doesn't make other people stop posting deals themselves. Either way, I'm here to stay! You guys are great to ask our opinions on these matters!!

I guess I will throw my opinion in here too, FWIW. Personally, I think the addittional postings are annoying. I feel this way because everytime I come to DOD, it is through my bookmark, which is the home page. THerefore, I have already seen these deals on the mian page, and to have them each posted seperatly again on another forum page is redundant as well a space consuming. If Mayor still wants to posts the daily deals on the found a deal forum, I too would like to see them in a single post. I also don't understand Mayors point about making the additional postings. He said that they will move down quickly due to the volume of new posts added durring the morning hours. If the reason posting them in the forum is to make them come up in searches, then fine, but put them in one post. If it is just so more people will see them, then why post all of them at night just so they can be moved down quickly. In that case, why not post a few, like two at a time, throughout the day. They would have a better chance of being seen then.

I always thought the boards were a place to post additional deals, on top of what is on the homepage. I think it makes DOD look bad to have all these posts here...just doesn't sit well with me. I am sure people know how to get to the homepage if they so choose. To post the very same deals here is a waste of time, for all of us.

Just wanted to add...

The best thing about DOD is the board...the members work extremely hard to find deals and post them. They are not seeking financial rewards for this, but mayor's posts are. DOD should not have a problem with the way the members prefer the boards to be, after all, DOD owes us a lot for our work and we should have some say in how things go around here. Mayor can post anything he wishes, just doesn't gain any respect from me because it is more of an advertisement than a person helping us all find deals.
I think DOD needs to realize that the boards are a main reason people come here and that in turn results in the homepage being viewed. Don't bite the hand that feeds you...

Cindy
