Thumbs up My experiences were great!

I've had great experiences buying from half.com so far. They have rules for their sellers that they must acknowledge your order quickly and send the item quickly. They actually emailed me with a special link to give feedback to their sellers when I didn't know how. It seems like they try to make their sellers be fair and follow the rules.

Like ebay, they may have bad sellers, but unlike ebay, they handle the money and have more control over them.

I have a free shipping coupon code, too ---

Your Free Standard Shipping Code: CARNIVAL
Free Standard Shipping applies to the FIRST ITEM in your next order only (up to $2.99)
No minimum purchase.
No strings, no hassle.
At Checkout, just type the above Free Standard Shipping code in the "Coupons and Gift Certificates" box provided on the page.

But hurry - this offer expires Tuesday, February 27, 2001 at 11:59 PM Pacific Time.

I started out buying at Half.com using the many coupon codes that were available last year. I have been very happy with the items I rec'd, all but one, a soft cover book that was supposed to be like new but arrived badly bent. I
e-mailed them and they told me to return the book to half.com, not the seller. They credited the cost of the book and the return postage. I do always check the seller's ratings and comments. You are taking a bit of a chance so this helps you pick a seller that is more likely to be a good one. After I started buying and it seemed to work out okay, I began to list some items that I had and didn't want anymore. Most of the things have sold pretty quickly, especially if it is a new release that you bought and just were not pleased with. My husband bought the current best selling book "The O'Reilly Factor". It was a quick read but wasn't something he wanted to keep so we listed it at about 3/4 of what we paid for it and it sold the next day. By the way, I went there today to use the free shipping coupon and on the home page one of the featured items was the video by the Wiggles "Yummy,Yummy". The videos are new, sold by a dealer as some of their merchandise is. My grandkids have a couple of the Wiggles videos and they LOVE them! Anyway, the new video was only $5.49, free shipping. A great deal. Just checked and they have more if anyone is interested.

I always look at half.com first for books and cds.

I usually only buy items rated as "like new" and I won't buy from a seller with a very low rating (like 3 and below).

I read the feedback too to get a feeling for why the seller is rated low. If they're just slow and I'm not in a hurry then I'll still buy from them. If they send the wrong item, I really don't need them.

I sell also, and I turned my retired father on to this and he LOVES it. He says he won't get rich, but at least he has something to do!

I've placed about 5 orders and have been pleased so far. I also wanted to mention that I believe you can still get Greenpoints if you order thru them, or ebates or memolink points.

I have placed about 20 orders with them. I love the returning customer codes. I use every one that comes out. All my orders have arrived and I've been pleased with everything. I also only buy like new items and many of the videos I buy are still factory sealed. Make sure to check the sellers rating. I usually only buy from ones with a 4.5 or above.

it certainly depends on the seller. i sell there and i pack the books, cd's or dvd's in new padded paper envelopes, use bubble wrap and even add in air pillows. i make sure the items i sell are rated correctly and try to only buy like-new items to sell. but look at the seller's ratings, and more importantly review the customer feedback associated with them. i bought some dvd's from a seller who had a 4.9 rating (out of five) but... had i looked further at the feedback i would have noticed a few problems. the dvd's i eventually got from this seller were scratched, and one was even the wrong dvd in the set i purchased. a few other times i have noticed poor packaging. However i must stress that mostly i have received excellent service, excellent quality, and excellent prices from the top rated sellers. The one problem I had was resolved satisfactorily.

Half.com has an excellent refund policy but delays forever so you might have to wait longer than you might expect, but it comes.

Half.com has changed their policy and now allows items at over half price. this has hurt the dvd side of the equation because many sellers are now selling dvd's higher priced than you can buy them if you really looked for a discount.

Half.com has one really great feature though that makes me look there first for any book, cd, or dvd. after you find the item you want, look to the right side of the page and you can go off to MySimon.com to compare the item at many other sites, including some used sites. i would go to MySimon first to look but it is often difficult or impossible to find the right item in their funky search engine. half.com's search engine is really great though and i can look it up there and it will pass me off to MySimon quickly and easily.

Amazon.com now sells used items in a way that is similar to Half.com (actually, they are realizing the competition from Half.com is getting up there and they have duplicated it.) Amazon calls their's MarketPlace. so, a good strategy is to go to both Amazon and Half.com to see who sells it cheaper. i have seen it both ways. just look up the item at amazon and look below the entry to see if someone is selling it used. Amazon's seller rating system is not as advanced at this time, however, Amazon has always been good to me about any return I have had before. Amazon has the best search engine in the business however Amazon does not have the MySimon passoff system for obvious reasons. Amazon also sells bid items like Ebay, so don't be confused. They are running two or more distinct systems of selling used items.

Other sites sell used cd's and/or dvd's in this same search engine fixed price format like: Swapit.com Spun.com and Switchouse.com but do it with trade in's. I have very little experience with these but they are worth mentioning. MySimon lists Spun and Switchouse prices, so you will see these if you click on the MySimon passoff link at Half.com.

Half.com was purchased by Ebay and are now part of that company.

Feel free to email me personally if I can answer any particular questions. I use the site daily to sell and buy and have kept up with it from the beginning.

Michael
