Don't forget to try your local Children's resale stores. (My local one is Children's Orchard.) I bought another brand there and it still had all the original packaging for about 1/4 the retail price!

Purchasing a used Breast Pump is not a good idea. These are for single person use. This can be very risky to use another's product of this nature, regardless off new tubing ect. Many contaminents can be sitting inside this pump and can be transmitted to mothers milk. All pump manufacturers discourage this, and this is why they are so cheap to buy compared to renting a Hospital Grade pump from your local Lactation consultant. The choice is your just like breastfeeding. Breastfeeding can save you lots of $$, and encourages healthy childrens nutrition. Why risk this when you are saving $$$ from formulas. Best Health |

I would also strongly suggest that you do not purchase a used one. I bought my ameda purely yours for almost half price Brand new on ebay from a doula.. Ebay is a great place to look for them, I have seen Medela's as well.. Altho i would recommend the purely yours, It has given me no problems in the 9 months i have owned it and has been easy to operate ![]() good luck.. |

If you do not have your heart set on this particular pump, I would like to recommend the Avent Isis manual pump. My daughter used this one when she was nursing, and it was pretty impressive....comfortable, easy to use/clean, very good at stimulating the let-down reflex and pumping out the milk. I have heard nothing but praise from others who have tried this pump. It retails for about $40-$45, but I have seen it on sale at Target for as little as $29. It's a great little pump.

I just had to tell you how much I love the Avent Isis pump. I used the Medela pump in the hospital and was planning to buy the pump in style. I chose the Avent Isis instead and couldn't be happier. For me, it turned out to be more convenient since I could pump discreetly anywhere. It is very easy to use and very comfortable. If you have to pump 100% of the time, you might rather have the double electric pump, but if you are only going to pump at work, I highly recommend the Isis.

The components of Medela breast pumps that actually come in contact with the breast and milk are supposedly separate from the pump mechanism; therefore, buying a used pump and replacing tubing, etc. with a "personal kit" is supposed to be perfectly sanitary. I'm not arguing with what others have stated here, but I was told this by many lactation consultants and when using one myself, found it to be believable. The breast pump I had purchased for myself--an Evenflo, not one I'd recommend--would not be sanitary to purchase used, and I suspect your average pumps would not be. Medela pumps are constructed differently--could be why they cost so much more than others! Back to the point, though... finding this mom a good deal. If not purchasing a used Medela pump, does anyone know where she can get one for less than the retail cost? |

I also enjoyed the avent Isis - BUT in order to maintain your milk supply the double pump is much more useful. Considering when you experience let-down, it happens on both sides, so when you're pumping just one side you're missing the let-down on the other side. My lactation nurse said to use the hand pump only when it wasn't convenient to use the double, or I'd jeapordize my milk supply (I was solely pumping because nursing wasn't working). I used both the avent isis and the Ameda purely yours. And think they're both great pumps. I also agree with the above statement about the pump mechinisim being sanitary even when used. The milk does not go through the tubing or the pump itself. I know eBay has some NEW Ameda and medella pumps way below retail, that would be my first stop. |

I bought a pump in style a year ago from Canadian Online Store, "kidalog"(Formerly Baby love products). They ship worldwide and the price is listed in canadian $ so it was about $150US at that time. I checked it today and it is listed for $249 canadian which is $165US plus shipping. I believe my shipping charge was about $12US by airmail. I live in California and it was around Christmas time so it took about 10 days to get here. The only difference from the US pump in style is you do not get the manual attachment but I think you can buy that for extra charge if you need it. Still saves a lots of money even you have to pay shipping and YES! no TAX!! Their website is [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] hope this helps. Good luck! |
