I posted this earlier in an 8-month-old thread ([Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now]), attempting to retitle that thread while simultaneously notifying those who were "subscribed" to it. Unfortunately, the thread title is locked as "4-DVD Lord of the Rings + Two Towers ticket for $22.49! ", which is not accurate and may easily be overlooked by someone interested in THIS set.

I am planning on ordering the [URL=http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00009TB5G//ref=nosim/worldvillage 4-DVD widescreen edition of The Two Towers[/URL], probably by next week. It is selling on Amazon.com for $25.99 and ships free. It will NOT ship until 11/18/03 as it is a pre-order item. The 2-disc set will be released later this month. Using free shipping, it may not ship until 11/25, but I believe that is Amazon's way of wanting you to pay for your shipping. My experience is that an order is rarely delayed because of Super Saver shipping.

If you have played Amazon trivia, you can apply enough credits to get up to a 10% discount. That will put the order under the $25 free shipping threshold, so I am planning on adding a Christine McVie album to my order, which will also get the full 10% trivia discount. When I complete my order, I can "Share The Love" by referring other email addresses of people interested in the same products. If you participate and order either item (DVD or CD) within a week (I think) of receiving the referral email from Amazon, you can get an EXTRA 10% off.

Did this work for everyone last time you did it? My experience with the Friends referral is that the first person to order gets the discount. I've tried to order something through a friend's referral and received a message letting me know that someone else had used the offer and it was no longer available.

Good point, sdlee. Last year, I only received one credit and I didn't use it fast enough, so I lost it. I guess it pays to read the rules, huh?

From Amazon's help screens:

You can only receive one Share the Love credit for any item that you have purchased. Even though you may refer multiple friends to an item, only the first person that purchases the item will generate a credit for you. You must make your purchase via the Shopping Cart rather than using 1-Click ordering if you wish to pay for your order with a Share the Love credit. To be eligible for a Share the Love credit, your friend must purchase the item within 1 week of your referral (7 days).

You may claim multiple Share the Love credits towards a single order, but each Share the Love credit must be utilized within 30 days of your referee's order being shipped. Any unclaimed Share the Love credit will disappear from your account 30 days after your friend's order has been shipped.

If you are the recipient of a Share the Love discount from a friend, you must make a purchase within 1 week (7 days) to be eligible for the discount. If you do not purchase the discounted item within 1 week (7 days), the friend that referred the item to you will not be eligible to receive a Share the Love credit from your purchase.

I see nothing about multiple referrals being ineligible for the discount, but I didn't read it all that carefully (rules, shmules). Maybe to get the most out of this, we can set up a chain of referrals. I will refer the FIRST person who responded and they can refer the next. Hopefully, a referral from a referral will work. How does that sound?

OK. It seems we're building a decent group here. I think the best way to do this is "the chain" method I referred to above. I will place my order first, referring JUST ONE person who is ready to order (soon). I will feed them the next person on the list who is most ready to place their order. Everybody (but me) will get the 10% discount and everybody (except the last person to order) will get the 10% "Share The Love" credit that can be applied to their NEXT Amazon order. If you rarely order from Amazon and don't think you'll use that credit, let me know so we can put you at the end and give someone else the opportunity to use it.

So with that said, shall we start this chain reaction? For those who already notified me, can you tell me how soon you are ready to order? Please be certain that you mean to order, otherwise you'll break the chain and hold up others who are waiting for their turn.

Jeff, I *think* that everyone you refer receives the 10% off, but you will only receive it once. We don't have to do a chain. Just you refering will accomplish the same goal for you and all of us.

I certainly would hope that would be true (that EVERYONE would get it), but sdlee's post has me wondering. I thought maybe we could maximize the program for everybody by spreading it out, but that may not work out. It may be good planning it out in this case because it will be almost 3 months until the movie ships. There's no hurry, so if we spread out our purchases, most everyone could get the discount from the referral and the "Share The Love" credit, too. So far, several people have expressed interest, but if no one is really ready to purchase yet anyway, they'll lose the opportunity for the discount if I refer everybody next Saturday and they wait a month until they order. The opportunity to get the discount would be gone after one week!
