Shocked

My grandmother had one of these built for her. I really don't know if it was a shoddy design, poor construction or a little of both, but it ended up with so many flaws that she actually had mushrooms growing in her living room!!!! The dome's just not for me.....

How weird, mushrooms growing in her living room. I'm guessing there are different qualities of dome homes that you can buy.
I think if you had enough land, it'd make for an inexpensive guest house, plus, if you live in a northern area, the snow would slide right off of it. It has it's practical side.

Growing mushrooms................

Kara told me about the guys' football house at the college where she went. One time she was using the bathroom, and she looked down, and there was a mushroom growing right out of the carpet! It was a well-known fact that pretty much everything was allowed to exist in its natural state in that house. LOL!!

Two neigbhor's down from me actually has a HIGHER priced one of these type homes (I think they paid well over $100,000) for theirs, and it is REALLY nice, it's a 2 store, with a library on the upper floor. I don't feel like I am in a round house really, unless I look up and see the dome ceiling.

Please note that the price quoted above (1257 Sq ft for $29,871.00) is ONLY for the dome.

You'd still need plumbing, heating, electrical, a basement or slab, and a complete interior!

I can't see spending 30K on a shell of a house, and not even a very big shell at that. By the time the home is completed, you'd probably exceed the average cost for stick-built homes in your area (which is maybe why MrsLisaP said her neighbor's house cost over 100K).

You can get a 2 story dome, the 2900 Sq. ft., $69,600 Big Momma. But again, all you get is a shell...

Oh yeah! Delivery is $2 per mile, so... unless you live within a couple hundred miles of their delivery point (which I assume is Nebraska)... OUCH!

Just something to think about before you think about it!

Another thing to keep in mind with these is appreciation. Modular and Manufactured housing often doesn't appreciate like a regular house would. Sometimes it even depreciates. And zoning laws for your area may ban anything that isn't stick-built.
