| I have it.
I have a DirecPc one-way system. I guess if ya live in the middle of nowhere, and the cable companies ignore your pleas for help, it's really the only alternative to dial-up. Howevery... DO NOT expect blazing speeds or high reliabilty. DO expect outages caused by weather, the likely inability to play games online, fairly unknowledgeable support service, and probably a great deal of headache due to the horrible drivers and software. Also, be sure to research information about FAP (fair access policy) if you go with DirecPC. (I haven't had a problem with this, and we're online A LOT!) This is not to say I'm displeased, but I really caution you to keep your expectations low. Remember, the monthly fees can be VERY expensive for this service, and if you have the one-way system, you still need a dial-up isp too. I'm really not sure where to get the best deal on these systems. I would watch the Best Buy ads and see what they offer. Avoid contracts, of course, because if you're not happy, you'll want a way out! I bought my system at Best Buy, and have had a few problems, but for the most part, I've been satisfied. I think that's mostly because I've had low expectations. You might want to check out [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] for information and forums. This is probably the most complete source for DirecPC information. They often have links to deals as well, I believe. I don't know much about the other satellite services available out there, but there are others. Whatever you decide, definitely do some research. Good Luck!!! -Jen |
