Okay, you gotta do the whole Bourbon Street thing -- go after dark and watch the crazy drunk people. Make sure you pick up some beignets (little rectangular donuts dipped in powdered sugar) at Cafe Du Monde. Harrah's Casino is there, the Aquarium of the Americas is a lot of fun (they've got an IMAX, too). Shop at the French Market and remember to haggle. Have never been to the House of Blues but have heard it's great. The food at Cafe Maspero is pretty good and very reasonably priced. If you've never enjoyed it before, you want to try out typical cajun dishes like jambalaya, gumbo, boiled crawfish, and hot boudin.
If you haven't gotten your hotel room yet, go thru Priceline and bid for lodging in the French Quarter. Have gotten great deals with them. Might want to try stopping in at one of the visitors' centers to browse thru brochures for attraction coupons.
Have fun! New Orleans is a blast to visit -- but I wouldn't want to live there! (crime, poverty, just plain dirty in some places)
