Tongue inexpensive sewing machines

one of the best deals I've found was a Brother XL-3100 at Wal-Mart, last summer, for about $150. It's got the basic stitches and attachments, has worked steadily on a variety of fabric weights and textures, and is easily portable. If you're looking for something under $100 I'd recommend calling your local sew'n'vac shops to locate a used machine. They'll be heavier (metal parts as opposed to nylon or plastic) and possibly quirkier (therefore prompting their former owners to go shopping for new) but you may be able to find something for as little as $30. Best of luck!
