Callwave

Hi! Just curious what everyone is using now that callwave.com is no longer free. I really need to make a decision but I haven't found anything else that is free. Does anyone have any suggestions for a free internet answering machine? What other internet answering machines are out there that do have a fee?

Thanks!
Andrea

wow! I didnt know they were going to be charging a fee now. I tried Pagoo at one time but they only give you a free trial period.

Shocked

What do you mean CallWave's not free?
I'm using it now & haven't heard anything about their charging anything.

When/where did you hear that???

I'll try checking my other emails. Don't remember which one I used when I signed up w/ CallWave......

Thanks in advance!

I've received two emails from them. The first one announced the change and gave me payment options. I've pasted the text from the second one below. I was just wondering if anyone knew of something else. If not I guess I'll pay to keep it.

We recently sent you an e-mail notifying you of an increase in
the price of your current CallWave service. We understand that
some of our customers are disappointed by this change.
However, we are happy to report that the majority of our
customers are electing to keep their CallWave service and have
signed up for one of our plans that include FREE Caller ID.

This is from an email I received from Callwave on June 29th-

"In order for us to continue to provide our award-winning service,
we have no choice but to add a small increase to the price our
customers pay. The price increase is $3.95 per month or $2.95 per
month if you buy an annual subscription in advance (this charge
is in addition to what you are currently paying your local phone
company for Call Forwarding). Whichever plan you choose, we will
add the charge to your phone bill as a 1-900 charge.

Because we understand many of our customers will be disappointed by this change, we have decided to throw in our newest feature, Caller ID, free of charge if you act now."

My service is still free because they are reviewing my account (I only get 2 or 3 calls a month while online).

What do you mean by reviewing your account? Is there a way to keep it free?

Thanks!

I just bumped up a thread called "Alternate to Callwave" from June. Hope that answers some of your questions. If you look at my post on that thread it tells about some of the options that were offered. I applied to get free service for reading emails. I receive an email saying they were reviewing my account but haven't heard anymore about it. I went to the website and looked around. It didn't see a mention of the charge, just a cost for ungraded services. Maybe they changed their policy and are not going to start charging though I doubt it.

Unfortunately in terms of only getting a few calls per month while online, I'm pretty sure they mentioned the time spent online, not the amount of calls received. I think they mentioned 10 hours or less online per month (they were obviously not referring to DODers - maybe 10 hours a day!).
