Hi Crystal, I used to be a scout. Contact your local GS council. Maybe they have used uniforms on hand or can advertise in the montly newsletter for them.Ours usually had an annual used uniform sale every fall a month or so after school started. If there isn't one, start one! Many girls quit or graduate so there is bound to be an abundance of uniforms gathering dust in closets. Have you checked eBay?

A few years ago, there were patterns availble if you wanted to sew them. Also, as a former GS leader, many of the girls wore hand-me-downs from their older sisters, so used didn't have the same stigma it might under diferent circumstances. Girls are usually only Daisy's for one year, so don't invest a lot of money in them. Also, if you are ambitious, see about organizing a swap, where uniforms are traded. Part of the GS philosophy involves being resourceful and wise use of resources!

My partner works for the local council, and this is what she tells people. First, check with the troop your girls will be in. Many almost never use uniforms at all, especially at the Daisy level, for the aforementioned reasons. However, they might want some uniform stuff. Particularly at the Daisy level, a Daisy tee shirt is probably uniform enough. At the Brownie level, if she's wearing a sash, that's considered the uniform. You might want to invest in a new Daisy teeshirt and a Brownie sash, and then see if you can find other components used, either passed down from friends or e-bay. Unless you're a champion sewer (and love to do that), the patterns and fabric may be more trouble than they're worth. You might also want to check at te Council shop, because I know the one here often has sales and clearance on extra items. Kathryn |
