Does anyone know of a long distance provider that offers low rates and is giving out some sort of incentive (i.e. free phone card, free long distance, cash, etc). MCI screwed me over twice and I'm looking to replace them quickly, but would like an incentive to go along with it. TIA |

If you have had MCI for a while, you probably don't have to worry. What they did to me was call me up and offer me 7cents/min everywhere, all the time. When the bill came, it was 14cents/min! So I switched, but then they called again later and PROMISED me no matter what that they did indeed just start a new plan, and it was truly 7/min everywhere, all the time - dumb me, I fell for it again - and again, the bill comes and it's 14/min. I'm done with them - they will tell you anything you want to hear to get you on their plan, then change everything they told you.

I'm moving in a couple months, and have been looking at internet, phone service, and the like. I've decided that I'm going with the phonecards you can get at Sam's Club. Checking the prices at http://www.samsclub.com, each way you get the cards comes out to paying just 4.16 cents a minute. My parents have been doing that for some time, and thye've saved at least $20 a month on the phone bill. Granted, you won't get GC's and FF miles, but it's cheap, can't get much cheaper and still go through a reputable company (they are AT&T card)

For those of us who do not have a Sam's Club nearby, Costco has a similiar deal for phone cards from Sprint. I use these but still happily switch my long distance whenever a great incentive comes up. I save money and get bonus extras this way as well. If anyone knows of any current incentives, please post here! |

| bigredwire.com My long distance provider is bigredwire.com. They have a monthly charge of $3.80 with a state to state call at .05/minute. What's good is that everytime you make a call, they give you "points" that you could use to "zap" any calls $7.00 and under. It's saving me a lot of money. If you want to sign up, here's the link. http://www.bigredwire.org/ Sorry, no referrals are allowed in this forum. Thanks, Kat, moderator [Edited by kat on 04-06-2001 at 01:19 AM] |

Hi! I'm new here; please feel free to read my profile. I just happened to stumble upon your message and thought you might be interested in 100 free state-to-state minutes and a 4.5 cents per minute rate. Find it here: http://cognigen.net/opex/main.cgi Sorry, no referral links are allowed in this forum. Thanks, Kat, moderator [Edited by kat on 04-06-2001 at 01:25 AM] |

the only thing you have to look out for kingssingers is that if you don't use the entire card for one phone call, depending upon the card, some will charge up to a $5 connection fee. you have to be very careful with phone cards, as they can be very tricky. be sure to always read the fine print. rhea |

Any know what happened to essential.com? Everytime I try to submit, to switch long distance to them it says try later. I've been trying for about 2 weeks. I even tried calling there toll free number and it disconnects when the customer sevice person should come on. Weird!

| .045 cents a minute, no fees, no minimums
I use long distance from GTC Telecom (which is a reseller of MCI) I signed up through http://www.OnlineChoice.Com The rate is 5 cents per minute, but online choice gives you a 5% credit on each bill. They bill to a credit card and send you a statement each month. I have had them for over a year now with no problems. $.045 cents a minute with no fees is really cheap! |

I registered with bigredwire.com for long distance service back in November of 2000 and have been trying to get it cancelled for a month. I notified them at least 3 times to cancel the service, each time getting a response from them saying "your service has been disconnected", yet I continued to receive charges for calls I made. When notified, they pointed out a statement in their member agreement that says "you are still responsible for any bigredwire call charges if they occur after your cancellation of service or switch to another carrier." If this is the case, couldn't they keep charging my account indefinitely?? I have repeatedly told them to cancel my account but charges continue to accrue. In addition, their web site is extremely vague and there is no phone number listed to contact them, and most of the e-mails they list do not respond to my e-mails. It is a very shady operation.... They also charged me $10 for a credit card decline fee because I cancelled my card, but undoubtedly they will continue to try to charge it. I have filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau, FCC, and FTC. bigredwire told me they would resort to legal action over the $17.19 outstanding balance which I dispute. AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS! ericdiez@(remove this to email)yahoo.com |

MCI did the same thing to me!! If it wasn't for their $150 Amazon GC they were offering back at Christmas, I would never have switched. Now, my bills are astronimical!! I am switching to Opex for 4.5 cents a minute, no fee. Plus you can choose from different plans. http://ld.net/1plus/?cognigen And if it sucks, you better believe I will let you all know!!! TexMex A truly happy person is one who enjoys the scenery on a detour. |
