I bought a braun for the same reason, but it only took one kid dropping it to break something on the inside.Something to think about. I recently got a free DIGITAL thermometer from Drugstore.com (had to buy something specific to get it).I haven't needed to use it yet, but it should be better than a regular one or at least easier to read!

I was just looking at these this morning on ebay.com and they are pretty cheap most closing around 20.00 plus shipping. Keep in mind the cost of replacement disposable ear probes as this can really ruin the deal if they are expensive. Hope this helps. My only suggestion is as always check how much feedback the seller has and if it is positive...the more the better. I've got some great deals there.

I have the thermoscan, we bought right after the twins were born. Let me tell you...if this is going to be used for an infant look for a digital or regular one. It is not accurate on infants because of the way you have to insert it into their ears (their ear is too small). It is excellent for my 4 1/2 year old. My son recently had a 103 temp..the thermoscan said it 99.5 !!!!! I ended up not putting it in his ear but in his armpit and it worked more accurately.

Skip the ear thermom, invest in the underarm thermom. The ear one can give different readings. The underarm thermometer is the best money we ever spent. It take a accurate temp in 2 seconds. IT'S GREAT!!! They are about 60 bucks though, but worth the money for a sick kid.

I've never gotten an accurate reading. I spent 10.00 on the mouth thermometer the one that gives the digital reading and beeps when it's done. My mom got us the ear one when they first came out and she spent 60.00 on it, such a waste of money. I wanted one because the thought of doing a rectal reading kind of grossed me out. LOL

| Just moving post to the right forum!!! BUT, I also must comment. Bought the Thermoscan 10 years ago, when it first came out, spent over $100. Well, all I can say is that we ended up tossing the thing. It would give different readings, one minute you had a fever of 103, the next 98.6 - we just use the good ole regular arm pit one. IMO, save your money!!!! It's a shame, and I always wonder cause the doctor offices use them, never bothered to check if they were a different brand or a special one that they use....just a thought, ask your pediatrician???!!! Just an idea!!!
