Hi. I searched on Gomez, trying to figure out which online broker (stocks) will be best for me. Maybe you folks could help me out. I'm looking for one that has no (or less than $500) minimum balance requirement, doesn't have more than $2000 opening balance requirement, doesn't charge above $12-20 for a price-limit trade, has acceptable telephone Customer Service support (when the website is down, etc.) and doesn't give you nightmares if you ever plan to close your account. Suretrade is a good one, but is closing. Datek had plenty of negative feedback, and often has website problems. Some of the cheap-rate-per-trade brokers had lots of negative comments about the professionalism of their CSRs. There seemed to be a dearth of information on Sharebuilder, etc. which some of you had earlier mentioned on DOD. Any help/comments will be appreciated. Thanks. |

We have used Datek for about 3 years and have been relatively pleased. Their website problems seemed to have been mostly fixed. They have never stopped me from trading. They were mostly at night when I would try to check my account. Their trades are only $9.99 for either market or limit orders. Everytime I have called customer service, I have been able to talk to a rep who could help me. I think the biggest plus is the free streamer. Email me if you have any questions, and I'll try to help.

They have an excellent web site for both brokerage and mutual funds, and they also have superb customer service. They actually seem to enjoy trying to exceed expectations . . .
