I did a lot of research on PDAs before I bought one (I ended up with a Handspring Visor Deluxe).

For light usage, I recommend the Palm m100, which is about $149, or the Handspring Visor, which is about $189. The main difference between them is that the Visor has a built-in e-mail program and the m100 does not. If you go with other models of the Palm you can have all sorts of additional capabilities, but of course, you pay for it. I also like the Visor because its sync cradle has a USB connection.

There are excellent comprehensive product reviews and comparisons at [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] That site helped me make my decision.

Once you've purchased your PDA you'll probably find more uses for it than you originally thought, at least I have. There's lots of freeware and shareware at [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] that you can download. A friend recently told me she got Quicken for Palm, which she can sync with Quicken on her desktop computer, so it makes keeping track of finances really easy!

I bought my Visor at Staples using a coupon code. Free delivery and $40 off made it the best deal I could find! Good luck!

The Handspring Visor Deluxe runs about $249. It comes in several different colors (sorta like GameBoys) and has more memory than the standard Visor. Those are the only differences.

There is also a Visor Solo, which is exactly like the standard Visor except it doesn't come with a sync cradle. If you want to sync your PDA with your laptop or desktop PC, you need some type of sync cable or cradle. I know (except for the Solo) that the Handpsrings come with a USB sync cradle. I don't know if Palms include sync hardware or if it must be purchased separately.

Sync software is included with the sync hardware or PDA itself.

Another thing to consider is some type of case for your PDA. Most come with a hard faceplate, which will is just fine for many users. I wanted to be able to carry notes, business cards, etc., so I bought a $25 leather case for my Visor.

In my earlier post, I left something out: the biggest difference between the Palm line of PDAs and the Handspring line is that Handsprings have an expansion slot, which allows you to purchase Springboard Modules (like a camera, modem, backup, Tiger Woods Golf game) and increase the power and capability of your Visor. These vary in price depending on what they do, and there aren't too many out yet. Basically, the expansion slot and Springboard Modules are used like a GameBoy and game cartridges.
