| My Daughter is 23years old, after the birth of her second child she was diagnosed with type 2 diabetis, She is insulin dependant,She takes insulin twice a day. The problem she is having is being able to afford the testing strips for her blood sugar, Does anyone know where these supplies can be purchased at a discount rate? Thank-You so much for any information that may help her.

| I did a search and found a ton of sites that say they are free, but then you look at the small print and it says free for people with medicaid and insurance. I did find this one site that says it is for all, even people without insurance. I have NOT had time to check it out, but they are suppose to have some low cost and free things if you get medical approval. (I guess a letter or call from your doctor.) It will get you started until someone else can give you more/better information. My Mom also has diabetes, so I will continue to look when I can. Last year I wrote the supply companies directly and told them of her circumstances and they mailed her ALOT of free supplies. If nothing else, maybe you can try that. Hope this helps. | I search a few minutes tonight. Could not find cheaper than 50 at $29.99 at the site listed before. I am sure there has to be some out there some where. [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] or Dex Test Strips - 50 ct. $35.00 100 ct. $65.00. ... [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] I wish I had more time to investigate, but I am a cpa and time is a bit limited these days. These are sites with MANY links for support and information. I know there HAS to be a few chatroom who have discussed this before. [Only registered and activated users can see links. [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] I would contact Bayer directly, tell them the circumstances of your daughter, and see what they might do. (It couldn't hurt.) [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] |

| Been there, done that! Diagnosed Type 1 last year, and I was broke after buying my $150 / worth of meds and supplies each month! Fortunately, I am now in a better insurance situation... I found a few helpful items: I got some free test strips from this volunteer organization a while back (if you have a few $$ rattling around looking for a home, they can always use donations.) Diabetes Angel Network [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] (They are always a little bit behind, so it could take several months depending on donations.) Lilly Cares Program... apparently, if your Dr. fills out a form, you are eligible for free insulin. I have not tried this one. [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] LIfescan (makers of test strips and meters) I have not tried this one either... I am told that you may be able to call their customer service line and let them know you are low income. They might cut loose with some free strips. 800 227-8862 (Every once in a while they will run a promo with big chain pharmacies and offer a free meter when you buy a big box of strips at regular price.) There used to be a guy who was giving away free Lifescan meters, but I guess that promo is over. I got one for me and one for a member of my family who also has diabetes. I would suggest lurking for a while on the newsgroup alt.support.diabetes, also. It's mostly bickering, but there are a few jewels in there. Hope this stuff helps... now perhaps someone could help me. I'm looking to buy the special cable that hooks up your Lifescan meter to a computer. They are $19.99 at drugstore.com. Anybody found them cheaper? Anybody got a coupon code or free shipping for this item? James |
