Eyeglasses?

Just broke my 10 year old eyeglasses. Anyone know where I can get a good deal on new frames and polycarbonate lenses? I'd like to get something slightly more stylish than my old, giant frames. But mostly I'd like to save money.

Thanks!

You can't beat Walmart for the price and selection of eyeglasses. I'll never go anywhere else for my glasses and contacts again. I worry about buying either online because of something being wrong and having to send them back, etc.

I got my last pair at Sears because they had some stylish frames that weren't overpriced and offered a 1 year replacement plan for an additional ten dollars or so. If you anyone breaks them, you step on them, drive over them, whatever as long as you dont loose them and can bring them back to the store within 1 year or your purchase you get a replacement pair for 7.00
Knowing my daughter I decided it would be a wise investment for me.

I go to walmart to get mine. I bought mine last november and a couple of months ago i was having trouble with the little pads that are on the glasses, to hold them on your nose. they kept coming off. every time they put them on for free. no charge for anything. also, just two weeks ago, my 2yr old son broke my frames. I called them and asked them if they could help. the guy told me to come in so i did. the type of frames i had , they didnt have anymore. so he looked around for 30min. trying to find another frame to fit my lenses. that was so nice. they are always their when you need them on emergencey bases. and their always close by. who doesnt have a wally world in their town? they are good to deal with.

Actually, there isn't a WalMart all that close to me. I try to avoid making a special trip to one, so I keep a list in my car of things I need and stock up when I happen to drive by a store.

I know they have good prices on glasses, but no B&M store can compare to the eyeglasses you can get on web for under $40 complete with lenses. I'm just concerned that the quality will be sub par.

Thanks to everyone for the advice!

I have vision insurance and usually get new glass every two years. I have two pair of frames at home that I would be willing to send to you if you think you would be interested?? If you like either frame it would save you having to buy a new frame and you would only have to pay for new lens.
You can e-mail me at [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] if you are interested.

This is a bit late in posting....but I just received a pair of glasses from 39dollarglasses.com., and am pleased with them.

But, I also wear contacts when going somewhere, and wear glasses when I am at home, first thing in the am, or at night before bed.

It did take a little while to get them, but for what I use them for, it was a good deal for me. I had bought a pair at Visionworks a year ago for $120, and they were terrible. They broke after the first week, took them in and they replaced them...and three months later they broke again.

My Experience

Thanks to all who responded. I decided to buy from Zenni Optical, primarily based on price. Glasses came today (about 1.5 weeks from when I ordered them, slightly faster than the two weeks they say to expect). Very happy with the results. The frames seem to be high quality and the prescription is correct. Outstanding value!

Not a huge selection, but I found frames I like. Went with stainless steel for just a few dollars more than alloy frames. Also got anti-reflective coating (which does work) for MUCH less than other places charge. Nose pads are plastic, not silicone. I may upgrade those locally.

Thanks!

Re: Eyeglasses?

I don't understand how you can buy glasses online. Every pair sits on your face differently, so the central point of vision through your glasses is going to be different.

I remember one time I got a pair at Lenscrafters, where I was actually fitted for them, and they were 'off' a little, and OMG, I had a headache every time I wore them! I went back and they corrected them, but how do you avoid this with mailorder?
