Unhappy Looking for cheaper long distance service

I have been searching websites for a cheaper long distance service and have not had any luck! I call out of state often and am tired of high long distance charges. Does anyone know of a website that automatically searches long distance carriers?

When my girlfriend was out of state for a while, I was in a similar situation. AT&T and MCI are actually *very* expensive! One site I used was [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now]. I found a new long distance provider in a matter of seconds and I'm saving around 50% per month, which is a hefty chunk of change when you're in college! I've only used the long distance portion of their site, so I can't comment on the other areas.

Hope this helps!

Thumbs up

Tweek,

Thanks for the prompt reply to my post earlier. I looked at that website you mentioned to visit and man am I glad I did. I already signed up for a new long distance carrier and it looks like I will be saving at least 40-50%. They have this really cool calculator feature that figures your in-state and out of state calls. Then the site automatically lists several different phone companies and their rates. All I did was signed up for the carrier that was the cheapest and satisfied my needs. There are actually several other areas on this site to save money as well that I am going to look into.

Thanks again!!

My phone card rate from Costco costs less than half of what the cheapest service charged per minute. (based on my needs) Plus my card doesn't have the extra charges...

Great site to check out though and I did like the calculator.

If anyone else is looking to compare prices [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] is another site you could use.

10-10-811 is really great.

5cent a minute. No monthly charges. The only thing is that if you don't make a 3 miinute call, you are charged 15cents. Which is really not bad!!!

Wow!!! Sienna Communications is crazy EXPENSIVE! I agree with the Costco/Sam's Club calling card idea. 3.47 cents per minute with NO EXTRA FEES is very hard to beat! I did hear recently about some prepaid internet company offering 2-3 cents per minute long distance, but I cannot remember the company or their web-address. Does anyone remember this being posted in the not too-distant past?

Thank you everyone for the help. I checked out some of the other links you guys have mentioned. Yeah there are some very expensive long distance carriers out there that love to rip people off. On the other hand there are some extremely cheap carriers. However [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] I think had the best deal for me. If anyone hasn't checked this site out yet you might want to because there are several other sections of this site that help people save money. It's not just a long distance phone site. There are sections for Satellite TV, Internet service and Home Security. There is actually a page on buying computers. I just figured I'd mention this since we are all on the forum for a reason.

Just curious, olds7980 - what did you find that could have been cheaper than 3.47 cents per minute with all taxes/surcharges included? I tried the link to "competeforme.com" and found their best average-rate to be nearly double (6 cents per minute in the 315 area code), between "in-state" and "out-of-state" calls. Remember that, in addition to the calculation they showed you, you will have to pay an additional 12 - 15% for taxes, government surcharges, etc.. If you found a specific carrier that averaged 3 cents per minute, could you please let us know so we can all switch? Thanks!

I use [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now]

4.5 cents/minute and 4 cents/minute to 5 states of your choice.

Great plan, you can pay online, and they only charge your card when your bill exceeds $5.

I love their service and will never change.

tcarrsaved, In my last post I never said I found a rate lower than $3.47 cents per minute with all taxes/surcharges included on [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] Although, I do agree that is an excellent rate and I am sure it is hard to beat. I simply stated that I found an excellent rate that was the best deal "for me." I am not trying to make any arguments here or state that I found the "cheapest" rate of anyone.

Here is a rate lower than 3.47 per minute from competeforme.com if your into the calling cards.

NOTE: Sorry about my mistake in my last post. I had it stated as $3.47cents and it should have been 3.47cents.

[Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now]

TeleExpress Prepaid Calling Card. 1.9cents a minute although it says charges do apply. It is still cheaper than Costco's 3.47 cents.

Interesting, but the fees could EASILY eat up any perceived savings. Plus, the rate is different depending on if you call in or out of state. The international rate I looked at was very good and I am going to double check the rate on the Costco card, but the fees tacked on could even change the look of that. Last thing is that these expire...

The TeleExpress is interesting at 1.9 cents/minute, but the fees eat you alive. In order to just "break-even" in comparison with the Sam's/Costco card, you would have to average nearly 30 minutes per call, which is not reasonable for most people. A one minute call to an answering machine would cost you .41. Plus, you are charged a .49 weekly fee and a ninety day expiration on the card. The Sam's/Costco cards never expire. The more I think about it, I wonder how in the world anyone could price long distance services any lower than 3.47 cents/min. and still make a reasonable profit. There has to be something cheaper out there without any gimmicks/fees/add-ons/minimums, etc.. Anybody find anything??
