Like the subject says what do you people read? What type of books? What are your favorite authors? Do any of you still read anything besides the computer screen?

Actually I don't read as much as before I "discovered" the internet. That happen to anyone else?

Well being as I read over 600 words a minute, the Internet doesn't affect my reading time very much.

My personal favorites are Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Robin Cook and Lilian Jackson Braun. For the touch of humor I have every book by Erma Bombeck.

We like to learn so we also have a lot of text books and current events magazines in the house.

I like to read all types of books!! I read Dean Koontz, Stephen King, Mary Higgins Clark, history novels (books on Gettysburg, etc), biographies, and whatever interests me at that moment. I also read a variety of current magazines.

Well I read a lot and usually I can manage to be on the internet and read at the same time, all I do is keep my book handy so I can read while pages are loading etc.. I generally read historical fiction leaning mainly towards romance but I skip the high sex books because I don't read sex scenes anyway. My favorite authors are Nora Roberts and Anne Rivers Siddons but I will read just about anything if it stands still long enough. I even read the shampoo bottles while I am in the shower just to have something to read! Oh, I also like to write but mostly poetry and I've even been published.

My norm is to read mysteries/legal/detective books (Dennis LeHane, Lawrence Block, Sue Grafton)... but I occasionally read others. Right now I am reading a lot of Anne Tyler (Accidental Tourist, etc.) I don't read as much as I used to, either. I tend to go in spurts.

Big grin

I read ALOT. I read tons of fiction(romance, mysteries, etc) but I have this thing for true crime stories(I know, gory and gross). My family says that I devour books, which 2 of my 3 kids are definitely following in my shoes. The only terrible thing is, I read so many, that I never remember the titles when I go to buy another and sometimes end up with the same book I purchased a week or so ago.

My kids do have trouble because they are advanced readers(6th grader reading at high school levels and 4 year old at 2nd grade level)is finding appropriate books that are not too mature for them. (My 6th grader just finished Othello, and while her teacher approved, it was a little disturbing for her)

I enjoy non-fiction--computer software and hardware, finance, biographies, self-help, health, how-to, and sports. Exciting stuff, huh? However, I will say that my family and I loved the Harry Potter books. J.K. Rowling has that wicked, dry sense of humor.

"alternate" histories by Harry Turtledove

ANYTHING by Spider Robinson. The DOD bunch would fit in real well at Callahans(if you don't know what I mean, go find a copy of Callahans Crosstime saloon)

Xanth series by Piers Anthony

Pretty much anything by Tom Clancy and Clive Cussler!

I could go on and on....

My personal favorite is true stories of all kinds. I don't like to read anything that isn't actually real.
