| Our 10, almost 11 year old can make up to $5 week and our 5 year old can make up to $0.25 week. Here allowance is not an automatic thing. If they don't do their chores, they don't get paid. I look at it as training for the real world, because no employer is going to pay you if you don't work. Actually, if they decide to do NO chores all week, then the older one could wind up owing us money while the little one would just go without. ![]() |

| Yes, Same here Kat. If they forget to do their chores here, they pay me to remind them. I'll give them a few freebies here and there, but if they forget a few times in a row, thats the consequence.

| Well, we stopped doing an allowance because we would all forget about it, then we'd be in debt to our son for big bucks! When we did it, it wasn't connected to chores. Julian isn't a kid who begs for stuff at the store, just so he can get something. Never has been. So, most of the time, if we can afford it, we just get him what he wants/needs. He now has his own bank account with debit card, so he can also use that. Our chore "system" is this: we're in this together, but no one has "assigned" chores. Julian actually likes doing laundry, so he does it for all of us. We appreciate it because it's in the basement, and carrying stuff down is a pain. If there's a job to do I'll sometimes ask J if he'll do it. The only times he'll be reluctant are if he's in the middle of something, or it's something he HATES, so we negotiate -- and we try not to ask him to do jobs he hates. He doesn't mind changing the litter box and it makes me gag. He doesn't like taking the trash out after dark though (scary neighbor dog sometimes out). So we'll do that, or we wait until morning. If he's in the middle of something, the job can either be delayed or we'll do it. If it's important to do immediately and we need J to do it, we explain that, and he'll do it. If it's a normal job, we just do it because it's part of being a family. We offer to pay for other jobs though. We pay J to mow the lawn or paint or do other things like that. When we pay for particular jobs it tends to be easier to remember. Kathryn |

| My two youngest ages 5 and 6 each get $2 a week. They are both very good at saving their money so they can buy something nice instead of buying something junky right away the the $2. By doing this I hope that as they get older they will understand that if you want something its ok to have to wait and save up for it. Also if we are in the store and they ask for something I ask if they have the money saved for it. If the answer is no they don't even ask for it. On the other hand my 15 year old never learned to save his money. If he got money for his birthday he would want to spend it the next day. As he got older he might have over $100 in birthday money that he would want to spend right away. I would say save some of it in case something comes up that you really want and he never would. Then of course the next week he would really want something but he would have already spent his money. Now we give him $30 every two weeks. This is for school lunches (because he is to cool to bring his own lunch) or how ever he sees fit to spend it. He was asking for around $2 to $3 a day for lunch money so we decided to give him one lump sum and he decides what to do. If he makes a lunch at takes it he has all the money for other things. He still does not save his money but once the $30 is gone he get no more money for anything. He does not like it this way. He would rather go back to asking for money because we spent way more that way. Kelly __________________ Check out these [Only registered and activated users can see links. | Well, its been a LOOOOONG time, but when I was growing up, I got like 5$ a week...and I did a LOT of chores!! dishes, dusting, make all beds, sweep, in the winter i had to bring in the wood for the woodstove, all this on top of keeping my OWN room clean, and helping w/my little brother when needed. I never did think it was enough money By the time my daughter is old enough to actually have and do chores, I'll need a job at NASA just to keep up with the inflation!!! ![]()

| My son doesn't get a allowance. He however has things for sale in the store. Once he sells something he puts part back for buying more things, one part into savings for college etc. One part for himself and then some for church. It is working real well for him and he enjoys the buying more things to sell to make more money. ![]() __________________ Check out these [Only registered and activated users can see links.
