| I've been doing a lot of reading on gestational diabetes. The best site I've found so far is the NIH site....National Institutes of Health. I went to www.google.com and typed in gestational diabetes and the site was one of them that came up. You could type in Diabetes type 1 child and see what comes up. Good luck.

| I don't know about any great resources online but I would also recommend seeing if your local hospital has a diabetic group. We have one here & it's a great resource as there is a nutritionist & diabetic counselor available weekly to answer questions. I was born with juvenile diabetes (I was diagnosed even before my parents took me home from the hospital) & the one thing you don't want to do is discourage your daughter from remaining a happy, athletic individual. Exercise will actually help her sugars remain at a more normal level and if she is otherwise feeling healthy, then you're probably doing exactly what is right for her. Don't let the doctors browbeat you - insist upon talking to a nutritionist & endocrinologist as well. I know some HMOs frown upon you seeing specialists but it's well worth it to get into good habits now rather than trying to break bad ones later on. And, about the finger sticks - try the newer monitors that allow you to prick the arm instead. I switched last year and they are SOOOO much better! I also have a son who is on a diabetic diet, so I know that meal planning can be a real challenge. If you would like some meal ideas with exchanges, let me know. ![]() |

| There is a site you can ask questions on. Some of the people there have children with diabetes, and might be able to share a variety of knowledge that they got from their doctors: [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or

| My favorite uncle (he's only 11 years older than me) was diagnosed when he was 10. he lleads a healthy, happy, athletic normal life. he was always a volleyball and sailing star. he just had his first baby girl. he also participates in a study at a hospital here in CT (i forgot which on) helping find a cure. he's proof that diabetes lets you still live a normal life. tell your DD to hang in there and dont let her get down. she'll do great.! if you would like to talk to someone who's been there, i can give you the email address of my grandma and/or my uncle. my grandma was a nurse her whole life and obviously helped my uncle every step of the way. she also talks to people who's children have been diagnosed if they need to talk. i think she could be a valuable source to you and she wouldnt mind at all. she also checks her email daily. my uncle could give you some first hand experiences of dealing with diabetes as a child. if you would like to contact either of them, email me at [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] and i will give you their email addresses. god bless your daughter in these trying times. (i also went to highschool with a girl who had severe diabetes since she was 7. she was the best female swimmer in our school and went on to win tons of competitions. __________________ [Only registered and activated users can see links.
