Question good garden bug? bad garden bug? looks like an orange and black ladybug...
there's a new bug in my garden. is he eating my plants or eating whatever else is eating my plants?? he looks kind of like a halloween ladybug - but he does get substantially bigger - about 5/8 the size of my thumbnail. anybody know this guy? thanks! paula.

That sounds like the potato bugs we get around here. They are not good as they snack on the leaves of your plants unlike the cousins they resemble.

Ok! I went and googled for you. It appears they do not eat the plants but the aphids who do eat your plants are their favorite snack so you may want to keep them around. Here is a page with more info:
