Question

I'm saving up for a beautiful new 27" tv from Amazon.com. With shipping it comes to almost $380. Then I'll start saving for a new VCR. I love that so many incentive programs and other promotions (like surveys) offer free Amazon gcs for participation. I just got a 6-slice Delonghi (sp?) toaster oven last week from Amazon. Gotta love that site! So what are you saving up for?

We're saving them all for the kids for Christmas. Things are going to be kind of tight right now so I'm doing my ratings every day and getting those mypoints and filling out surveys like a crazy person.

Cool

Although I could use a palm pilot for business, at the rate I am going with Gift Certificates I wll be able to buy it in about, oh... say.... 20 years.

This is probably one of the areas where it's GREAT being single- I get to spend the GCs on me and not feel too guilty!

Well we have been saving for a nice gas grill from amazon that my DH wanted.

However we found another occasion to be glad I had saved the GC's as both our phones went out at once. The cordless won't work at all and the regular will ring and you can listen. but no one will hear you talking. Makes for an interesting conversation anyway! LOL

So tonight I ordered an AT&T DSS 900 megahertz cordless phone and a compatible hands free headset for $70. Totally free for me! I even have a few $$ left over from my GC's and plenty more left over to still save up for his grill!

Anyway if anyone has beem trying to call me, you are out of luck until amazon ships! Thank goodness the modem still works!

How funny - I was just lamenting tonight b/c I've earned almost $800 in GCs the last three months and I've gotten 2 books out of all of it! Between XMas gifts for family & friends, computer stuff for dh, birthday gifts, wedding gifts, household needs, etc, it's all been spent on that. Oh well, all the recipients love me so I get hugs and thank you's, but the next month I'm going to spend it on me!

I just cashed in $227 in Amazon GCs tonight to order a Handspring Visor Deluxe (like a Palm) for my husband. Only had to pay $27 for it!! It would have been completely free except the FirstLook GCs haven't arrived yet It was hard to authorize the charge - it's been a while to actually pay for something at Amazon, LOL! I had been going like a mad woman trying to rack these GCs up the last 5 weeks, but I did it.

Now I'm saving for a really nice digital camera and I don't know where I'll get these from, but I've always wanted a pair of diamond stud earrings. I'll probably need to get WCs from FreeRide for the earrings.

*drool* Oh you are SO lucky.

How many hours per day do you spend earning gift certificates? Before I start what will probably become another obsession, I figure I better find out what I am in for $800 in 3 months is pretty sweet! And guilt free!

Collectively I spend about 4 hrs a day.

Two hours in the morning to do FreeRide, FirstLook, Jaboom and checking the boards for deals/other GC opportunities.
My husband signed up for all these and quit doing them, so now I do them for him too.
FreeRide: 40-60 a month in Amazon between both of us
Jaboom: only I do this one - 36 per month roughly
Firstlook: 80/mo collectively

Then I spend about an hour in the afternoon, and another hour at night checking the boards. I've received about $200 in various GC through deals posted here.

Then there's MyPoints which I do every Sunday and get about 2-3 Target GC each month. I make my husband do his own on this one b/c I don't want to have to delete cookies and such. He remembers to do it enough to get about 1 GC a month. I think these amts will decrease a bit now that their points have gone down to 5.

So it takes some time but it's not that much considering what you get in return.

Man do you people make me feel guilty! You are saving for t.v.'s and other great things or for Christmas. What do I do? I spend them all on gift certificates to restaurants.

OK....... now I'm going to save..... that is my June 20 resolution.

jsalba, if you think about it, you're actually saving yourself quite a bit of $$ if you normally eat out anyway. Instead of paying out of pocket, you get it for free therefor keeping more $$ in your wallet.

If I used GCs to pay for all my restaurant meals, I'd leave about $200 in my wallet every month! Or I could just quit eating out and learn to cook - nah!

It is kind of nice though to be getting items that we otherwise would just keep dreaming about - the Handspring for example.

What will you save for jsalba?

jsalba - don't feel bad, I do exactly the same thing. If it weren't for these GC's we would never eat out! Now I have such a great stash in my drawer. We just have to go over and say, hmm, where should we go tonight, Fridays, Chili's, Rainforest Cafe ...

And for the places that give just Amazon GC's, I buy books, and save for really big toys for my son. What a life!!

My neighbor made a crack the other day that she doesn't see me bringing in any money. I told my husband today and his comment was that the money I have saved us with my GC's and deals makes up for an income. Not having to go spend cash on toiletries or coffee since October saved us hundreds of $$$ as did the free Christmas toys, the free videos and video games. The free computer mouse to replace the one that died, the free phone replacing the dead ones, the free cat foods and litters to cut down on that expenditure.

He said he is really proud of me for the time I take to do this stuff and the money I save that we can put towards other items.

So no matter how you use the gc's it is worth it to save the money.

verwon, that's wonderful that your husband supports you like that! Mine does too and it feels really good that he not only acknowledges but also appreciates my efforts and what I bring in, even though it's not always cash. Sometimes it's gift certificates and sometimes products. Today we got a beautiful, new, top-of-the-line toaster oven that we've wanted for years, not only for convenience but also to save money because we wouldn't have to heat up the entire oven just for, say, a pizza bagel. And the cost? FREE! Also today I was able to order two new books for free and a new CD for only $2.95. And that's only a little of what I was able to get today.

I get cracks like that from my family and other people and I find it very out of line. Maybe they're jealous? If you and hubby are happy, then they've got nothing real to say about it anyway.

P.S. Sorry if that sounds like a rant (I suppose it is!), but people who judge really get me!

What am I going to save for? I'm not sure. I think I will stay away from the gift certificates for restaurants for a bit.. have plenty of them. Guess I will have to search around Amazon.com to see what they have waiting for me to take home.
