Big grin Public Service Announcement: Nail Polish & Children

The Following is a Public Service Announcement from idiotic parents such as myself..........

DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT give your child fingernail polish until she is old enough to be trusted with it alone!!!!

Yup, Michelle is at it again. Really, at 7 years old I would have thought she'd be more than responsible enough to be trusted with a bottle of nail polish, but NOPE....

Yesterday afternoon I smelled this horrible smell all through the house. My first suspicion was nail polish. So I asked Michelle if she was or had been painting her nails. "No" she answered. I asked "Have you had the bottle open at all today?" "No, but I was going to paint my nails in a little while." Okay.. well, we all like to trust our children, right? I made the mistake of believing her answer.
I walked into her room last night to do my nightly ritual of checking on her before I go to bed and her floor was very wet. I wondered what on earth she had been doing, but I didn't think anything else of it until I walked into the bathroom to brush my teeth and saw a piece of her 4 part Madeline tin sitting next to the sink with gobs of nailpoish inside and a little dab of nailpolish by the drain. I looked closer... large gob of nailpolish stuck inside the drain - so much I couldn't even pull the drain thingy out to clean it! I, of course, was floored, and turned around to go take her nailpolish away from her and oops.. what's this in the floor??? A dried puddle of nailpolish! I controlled my urge to scream, seeing as it was 11 pm. I continued on to her bedroom, flipped on her light (which amazingly enough, did not wake her), only to see nailpolish spilled in her floor. I also found the other pieces of the Madeline tin shoved under her bed, with gobs of nailpolish inside each piece. I grabbed her case with her nailpolish inside, picked up the tin and stomped out of her bedroom.
I "inventoried" her nailpolish... amazingly enough, out of the 12 bottles of the stuff, she didn't empty them all, but most have barely anything left inside. I then spent the next 2 hours with my nail polish remover, cleaning the drain, floor and her Madeline tin.
Boy did she get it this morning!!!!!

Hey Kat, Steph & Mouse... remember that conversation we all had a while back when Codey had superglued the dog? You know, when we said we should never let our kids be in the same room together alone?? I thought of that last night as I was removing the large glob of nailpolish out of our bathroom drain!

Jen,
I went through the same deal with my daughter. She let the little one get the bottle and then chased her through the whole house while it drizzled dark brown polish down the stairs across the floors carpet even my ottoman! finally ending with a big blob on the dining room floor.

It took strait acetone and lots of crying and rubbing to get MOST of it up. Some still remains in the sofa......

I threw all the nail polish in the house away.

Something that DID NOT turn out as well was a can of Hawaiian Punch drink. Someone took it in our van and spilled it. By the time I knew it of course it was dried and baked on. Its all over the floor --- horrible stain HOT PINK next to light grey carpet. I have tried oxyclean, bleach, resolve...... no change.

WAHHHHHHH

Jen, I promise you ........it doesn't get any better. LOL I have a stepdaughter who is 19, last year I went into her room, amazingly it was on a day you could actually see the floor and at the foot of her bed on my lovely emerald green carpet was this big red spot of polish. I freaked. She just looked at me and said "What , oh that? I thought you knew about that , didn't i tell you, that happen the summer after we moved in" We had lived in the house for 5 yrs when I found this. No I know why there was always crap piled at the end of her bed. That's ok though. She is gonna deliver her first child next month. She still lives at home. So I promised her that paybecks are heck. And that the little girl she's having will be hers. LOL I can't wait.

OMG! I have a 6 yr old who loves to paint her toes and nails. I will definetly keep this story in the back of my mind for the next time she sweetly asks " Mom, can I paint my nails?"!
