How hot is it where you live? It is about 90-95 here, going up to 100 tomorrow. Not looking forward to that!

Oh wow and your in OHIO??? We usually go to the park here in Sparta for a wonderful july 4th celebration... But with this heat index (it's so aweful) We may end up missing out on the fun cause the lower temps jsut aren't comming in the evening like they should...its all muggy :-(...

AND ITS "SODA" (for the record)

It's pretty hot here in S. Calif too, but I'm not sure of the temp, probably 85 or so. But what on earth is "the heat index?" Is it sort of like the "wind chill factor?"

heat index (I believe) is the temp combined with the wind and the humidity..the dew point might have something to do with it.
WQ...maybe I will have to find out exactly what it does mean
I know it is HOT as H*LL and no breeze what-so-ever

It is supposed to be in the 80's for the 4th...I sure hope so! Spending the day at an amusement park and either have to crutch it or ride in a hot wheel chair!! WHAT WE DO FOR OUR KIDS!!!

right now it is 12:03 a.m. and it is 84...heat index 88 and wind 1 mi per hr...humidity is 63%...dew point (whatever that is) is 70

I believe the dew point is how saturated the air has to be before water begins to condense on surfaces.

I could be wrong though.

Talking

The dew point is the temperature to which a sample of air must be cooled, while the mixing ratio and barometric pressure remain constant, in order to attain saturation by water vapor. In simpler terms, it is a measure of how moist the air is. Moist air is more unstable, which is why you hear meteorologists talking about the Dew point when they talk about thunderstorms. Dew points in the 50's and higher can significantly contribute to thunderstorm development, and Dew points in the 70's indicate extremely unstable air. Since it not expressed as a percentage related to temperature, it won't change day to night like the Relative Humidity.

Relative Humidity is the ratio of the existing amount of water vapor in the air at a given temperature to the maximum amount that could exist at that temperature. It is usually expressed in Percent.
