Oldest, Middle, Youngest..Do your kids fit "Birth Order Personality Type?"

I had lunch with a psychologist friend of mine yesterday, was whining about my kids, and she was just LAUGHING, saying my kids' antics were very typical of their birth order. Here's what she said:

Oldest Child: In control, likes to be the boss, good leadership, reclusive occasionally, independent but needs reassurance, strives for success, hard on themselves, easily frustrated, perfectionistic

Middle Child: The mediator...tries to solve everyone's problems, works to compromise, makes deals, desperate for attention, child of family most prone to abuse drugs/alcohol (as an adult,) will use shocking behavior/clothing to attract attention, artistic, excellent problem solver, underachiever, either EXTREMELY competetive or not at all, no middle ground.

Youngest Child: Needs to be around others, likes others to take control, very connected to people, most likely as an adult to move farthest away from home/parents, adventurous, risk taker, argues.

Only Child: Loner, enjoys friends but is just fine with no one else, stays close to home as an adult, prefers to work independently vs in a group, enjoys team sports but has to excel, most likely to make the most money as an adult.

What do you think??

Rolling eyes I don't have kids but...

My fiance is the youngest in his family and he fits that description to a T! Except for the moving farthest away bit. His parents moved away from the kids!

I am an only child and I see myself in that description too! Except team sports, never got into those much but when I did I throughly enjoyed them!

I think we're a little of everything. At least I am. I'm am the youngest and I fit a bit into each of the four categories:

Oldest: I like to be the boss and at least used to be a perfectionist.

Middle: I am a good problem solver and am very competitive.

Youngest: I moved farthest away, but am NOT a risk taker.

Only child: I like to work independently. I probably make as much or more than each of my siblings.

Well, Steven is very much the perfectionist, easily frustrated and hard on himself!

Youngest Child: Needs to be around others, likes others to take control, very connected to people, most likely as an adult to move farthest away from home/parents, adventurous, risk taker, argues.

Let's see, Matthew is definitely a people person so that part fits. More of a follower rather than a leader....yep, that part fits! Risk taker, yep he's positively fearless. Argues.......YEP
I hope he doesn't move too far from Mom & Dad

I wonder where I fit in? Because I'm actually the first born to my birth mother - but I'm the baby of the family because my brother was adopted first and is 4 years older than I.

So does that make me the first born, or the youngest? LOL

Shanie..it has to do with your siblings...so you're the youngest if your adopted brother came into the family before you were born. If he was adopted after you were born, beats me!

Of our two girls, Kara, the oldest, fits the description of the middle child and Jenna, the youngest, fits the description of the first-born!

I'm an only, and that does describe pretty well, except that I'm NOT a loner, and I don't have the need to make a lot of money. In fact, I'm considering quitting work! LOL!!

I am a mixture of all three, as my parents had "2 families" - my older sister and I are 3 years apart, thus me being the youngest Then 11 yrs. 10 months later my younger brother was born, putting me in the middle, then 3 years later my little sister was born and by now my older sister had left the house, thus making me the oldest

My personality even fits this - no wonder I tend to be confused and frustrated with life

The traits that I most :
Oldest - hard on themselves, independendent but needs reassurance, frustrates easily

Middle - desperate for attention, EXTREMELY competetive, excellent problem solver

Youngest - Needs to be around others, most likely as an adult to move farthest away from home/parents (which is really odd, because I am currently contemplating moving to Arizona and my family lives in Wisconsin)

Well thanks for the info Bdinalbq - you gave me some wonderful insight on why I am the way I am - maybe it will help me with my deicision on if I should move to Arizona (my boyfriend of 7.5 years is moving there, as he his whole family is there and he is able to transfer with his job - but that's a subject for another post!)

Have a GREAT day everyone - back to work I go

YW Library Lady...haven't seen you post before, glad you're here in GCC!

Interesting birth order story too, you don't meet too many folks who fall into the "all of the above" catagory! LOL

My first child is #1 in most ways, but he does not need the approval of others.
My last child is nothing like #3 description, except that he argues about everything.
And the two in between are both well adjusted, non-drug users. One is very social and one is very shy.

Am a "loner" from time to time (on my own island, remember? ). I am nowhere near close to home (PA vs. GA). I work equally as well independently as in a group, however, I have never had any problem working independently. Am not big into "playing" sports. I never was. But I would consider myself a competative individual, yes. And I sure hope the last sentence proves to be true. Lord knows I sure could use it

Note: I did inherit 3 step brothers and a step sister as well as a half brother during my mid teens. Dunno if that means anything or not tho. Can you add anything there Jamie?

Mare...I personally can't add anything but I know who to ask! The information I posted isn't "my" information, it was just what Jeannie (my psychologist friend) and I discussed over a casual lunch and I thought it would make an interesting post. I do know there have been a few books marketed about the subject..I can look them up for you if you're interested!
