Unhappy Remedy for removing hard water stains from glass drinking glasses?

I went to a garage sale and got an *awesome* deal on some beautiful hand-blown glass glasses from Mexico. 4 glasses for 10 cents each! ---But here comes the catch! They all have terrible hard water stains on them, from a dishwasher, according to the seller. I figured I'd gamble on 40 cents and took them home to try and clean them.

I've tried soaking them in distilled vinegar, as suggested by a friend, and have tried scrubbing them, too -- but nothing has worked so far.

Does anyone have a good solution to this?

I'd like to try something natural first, around the house that is, vinegar, baking soda, lemon, something like that...although I am at a point where I might try special cleaners, too. If anyone has any kind of suggestion, I'd appreciate it!

Thanks!

Melissa
P.S. My boyfriend suggested bathroom cleaner, any opinions on that? :-o

How about CLR? It sure removed the haze from my shower doors.

I bet Wifey will have a good answer for this. I don't even bother posting half my questions anymore. I just ask her. She has a perfect batting average so far

Just found this on Heloise's website. Even though you tried cleaning with vinegar, did you warm it?? Here's what she suggests....

How do I...

1. Clean cloudy drinking glasses?
Soak them for an hour or longer in slightly warm (not boiled) white vinegar. Then use a nylon-net or plastic scrubbie to remove film. Still there? The damage must be etching (tiny scratches that occur in the dishwasher) and is permanent, sorry to say. To avoid: Hand-wash your best glasses.

I know there's another website that gives suggestions....I'll keep looking unless wifey comes through with an answer.

We have the hardest water in the world here. If your glasses aren't real bad, they make this stuff you add to the dishwasher called Glass Magic. They sell it at all of the supermarkets here. If they're really cloudy and you can see scale, Lime Away works the best. I've used CLR and it didn't work as well as these two, but if they're not available in your area, CLR is OK.
