I thought I needed a Tetanus booster until I read this:

I recently had to have stitches in my hand. I told my doctor I thought I needed a Tetanus booster. I had recently seen an article that most adult needed a booster for Tetanus/Diptheria and I can't remember when I last had one.He said the clinic didn't have any at the time because there is a shortage of the vaccine currently He my wound was not at high risk and should just keep checking back until the vaccine comes in and then get a shot. I planned to do this but just read this : [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now]

It tells how (once again) we, and our doctors, have been duped into thinking we NEED these treatments. Dr. Mercola tells in this article how he found out that the vaccine is not all that protective and that Tetanus is not even fatal as we have been told. He also found out that there is more than just inaccive tetanus in the vaccine. He tells simular things about diptheria. Reminder - I am talking about adult booster here not childrens vaccinations because that is a different subject. I was surpised at what this doctor's article says and I am now rethinking if I need to go get this vaccine when it comes in.

My last Tetanus shot was just last year. But I had an allergic reaction to it (huge rash and lumps under the skin) so the Doc said no more for me, he said the next one would be much, much worse and could even be fatal. So, I'm good for the next ten years.

So, if that's true, then that makes me feel MUCH better. LOL Thanks

Angry

Notice one of the ingredients in the tetanus vaccine is
formaldehyde - [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now]
"Formaldehyde is classified as a human carcinogen and has been linked to nasal and lung cancer, and with possible links to brain cancer and leukemia."
Carcinogen means cancer causing.
And someone thought this might be a good chemical to inject into the bodies of infants???!!!
And educated parent is a wise parent. Research all the vaccines and drugs "they" want to administer to your children. Make your own choice. After all, if your child becomes injured or dies, you and your family will be the ones who has to live with it. This is America and you have the right to choose.

Corganiacs has great potential
my last tetanus shot was when my roommate's hamster bit me on my big thumb in 2000.
tetanus is a serious disease and it can wreak havoc.

Formaldehyde is classified as a human carcinogen and has been linked to nasal and lung cancer, and with possible links to brain cancer and leukemia."

Are there current research proving or disproving this statement?
I dont follow up on tetanus so I dont know. Perhaps the pros outweigh the cons (?)

Here is a line from Dr Mercola's article (don't want any copyright trouble in this thread LOL!):
"Recovery can take months but is usually complete, unless unforeseen complications occur."

I am thinking this used to be a bigger deal before antibiotics.

Here is another line from the article describing what tetanus is:
"Tetanus is a disease caused by the Gram -- positive bacterium Clostridium tetani that exists in soil as a spore. High concentrations can be present if the soil has been contaminated with animal or human feces. In the presence of anaerobic (low oxygen) conditions, the spores can germinate and release a potent neurotoxin, called tetanospasmin, into the bloodstream.

Dirty, deep puncture wounds that are contaminated with soil are at greatest risk for infection. Wounds that are gangrenous, or injuries caused by frostbite, crush injuries, and burns are also at increased risk"

People just get these shots without even thinking that it is the right thing to do. I try to be well informed, but this is new info to me also. I just like knowing the info myself and not counting on my doctor to make all of the decisions. It is just one less thing for me to worry about now, since tetanus shots are in short supply. I will leave them for the ones who really are at high risk. If you have a reaction, you can skip these and not feel like your life is in great danger. I also did not know that just because you have the vaccine, does not mean you can't still get tetanus. I thought the vaccine gave full protection, but I was wrong.
I have been learning quite a bit from Dr. Mercola's site thanks to Maxie or Blue (maybe both,I forget) for posting that site.

Yup, but then if we choose NOT to get our kids those shots, then they aren't allowed in school! Which in turn creates a whole big mess. I had friends who were threatened in court by a Judge to be thrown in jail because their son did not attend school for 5 days and they didn't have a doctor's note excusing his absence. It's so stupid and it really makes me, as a parent, feel like I have NO choice in the matter.

NOT TRUE.

There are exemptions available. Most states, except Mississippi and West Virginia allow for both medical and religious exemptions. 15 others also allow philosophical exemptions.

Like I said earlier. An educated parent is a wise parent. Know the vaccines. Know the diseases. Know the law in your state. Make your own educated decision for the sake of your children.

If you aren't comfortable with the exemptions, homeschooling is also an option.

Live well,

Wow! Interesting, but I wouldn't say that tetnus isn't fatal. My husband's mother died of it about 40 years ago. It was a terrible death, and all because she didn't believe in the shot. When she originally got her wound (gashed her bicep on a nail sticking out of the barn wall), the doctor told her she should get the shot, but she refused. Then, when she had tetnus symptoms, it was too late!

However, I am nervous about all the vaccines we give our children. In another thread, the controversial link between MMR and autism was discussed. As the mother of an autistic child, I was very nervous about getting my son's MMR booster shot. I delayed having it until the school threatened to not let him back in. By then, he was 5 1/2 years old, so I felt better about giving it to him. (This was last month.)

I do believe we should have the choice to delay these shots a bit, or to have single shots, instead of the combination shots (such as the MMR, the DTP, etc.). We give tiny babies an awful lot of stuff at one time. I remember one doctor visit where they wanted to give my son 8 different vaccines at one time! It was the MMR (3), the DTP (3), the hepatitis shot (1), and a flu shot (1), all at once! I decided I wanted them make different appointments for some of these, and they agreed to do so. It's less convenient, but I feel better not overwhelming his small body with too many things at once. And he IS a bit fragile, so I'm extra protective of him!
