Question

The internet deal forum is getting alot of post on "?'s" or warnings on deals. These "?'s" and warning are good "?'s" but are flooding that forum. So i was thing why not open a new forum under internet deals for these "?'s" and warnings and ect.. That really don't belong on that forum. I know that some of the posts need to be posted there for poeple to read and don't really belong on any other forum on this broad. But internet deals are getting just many posts on "?'s".
This is just my suggestions? And something to think about!
Thank you
Corky

To put in my 2 cents, I think warnings are important because sometimes if I'm in a hurry Internet Deals and Freebies are the only forums I check. Of course, as dod becomes more popular it risks becoming a tedious catchall like my******s forum unless there is strigent forum regulation. Questions I agree do not belong in Internet deals, but if it is something really urgent I think people are afraid to use ChitChat because not everyone reads that forum daily.

I agree with you stargirl about the warnings.
I'm making this suggestion because of a the "?'s" being posted there.
Any ways i'm just making a suggestion to help clear up some of those types of posts.

Just my opinion, but I think questions and warnings about deals, freebies, contest, etc. belong on that particular board! As long as it is on the same topic! I guess I like DOD forum the best because it puts its "user" first. If you want an internet deal on something and you don't know where to go, you can ask and people will help you. You can find it easily without searching forum to forum. Now if its a question like What can I buy my DH for valentines day? I think it belongs in chit-chat.

Maybe I'm not understanding what you are saying, but I think if you are looking for an internet deal or have a question about a deal that already posted, it belongs on the Internet Deals forum. If there is a warning about a deal that was posted it should be there too, I guess I think the forums would be to scattered it you had to post a question about a topic in the deals sections in another forum.

I'd love to see a forum along the lines of "Where can I find ____"? I agree that questions like that really don't belong on the internet deals forum, but there's no other forum available that really addresses that need, so I can't fault anybody who posts that to the internet deals board. I have no problems, though, with warnings, as long as they're factual and not just based on the fact that somebody doesn't like how a certain cs rep treated them or something like that. I also don't mind questions about posted deals, such as "where do I enter the code" or "how do I get this offer to go through". I'd prefer to see that type of question first posted under the deal it refers to, and then as a separate posting if the asker doesn't get an answer from the first posting. Some days I don't have time to do anything except check to make sure I haven't missed any deals (and I'm extremely grateful to the SDMs for keeping the deals boards uncluttered so that it doesn't take more than a few minutes to check for deals). On days when I'm not especially rushed, I'd be more than happy to answer any questions or to help if I can. Just my 2 cents.

The idea about having a new forum for "Where can I find" is a good one. I think in particular the moderators should strictly enforce removing the questions like "where can I find a deal on a toaster/shirt" from OUT of the Internet deals as soon as that type of thing is posted. Also, to think about -- what if newly registered users were required to log in and view the boards for 3-5 days before posting, or at least before starting up a new topic? A novel idea but it would help people get used to the system.

I did inquire as to where to get an internet deal for a toaster, and luckily people did answer the question. After all, I was specifically looking for an internet deal. I personally just skip over the questions or deals that I can't answer or ones that I am not interested in(like the magazine ones).

I always think of a board as encouraging discussion, otherwise it just becomes a listing of internet deals and freebies. Flamingoworld is a wonderful site with a listing of these things, but they don't answer questions that you may have about a particular deal and no discussion as to what did you get with the $10 off and so on, or maybe you found something (candy or shower gel or something that was really good at that site)

Red face

I have to admit that I am personally against a new forum for questions. I know that the questions posed by others have helped me out and I'm sure many others. And if a question is posed in Internet Deals, then generally it pertains to Internet Deals. I think the suggestion is admirable but I just don't agree with it at this time.

However, I think it would be useful if those posting questions would always use the "?" mark icon that way if questions are of no interest to certain members then they will realize ahead of time that they may not want to take the time to review that post.

Thumbs down

I agree, jsalba! If we all remember to use the blue ? for prefacing our questions in the forums, then it should be easy enough for people who don't want to read questions to skip over them.

Sometimes I have more time and can stop to read the questions, other times I have only a minute so I'll scan to see if there are any goodies I don't want to miss. If posts have the "?" in front, then I know to just skip them if I'm in a hurry. Ideally, the topic line should always help to preview the message inside - so all questions should be prefaced with the blue ? icon & deals should have the company name & basics of the deal.

Just MHO

I agree that questions like "Where can I find a good deal on a _________" or "What are you buying at ___________" are helpful. And, so are the posts in this forum, hot potatoes, stinky deals, and kudos and compliments. It's just that those posts are not as general as ones that tell you _______ has a coupon, discount, or special promotion, etc. I'm definitely not blaming or pointing a finger at anybody who posts questions on the internet deals forum; as I wrote earlier, there really isn't any other forum to post questions like that to now. But, I'd still love to see a separate forum for questions and whatnot. Several times I've wanted to ask the members of this board where to find an item, or where to find a good deal on an item, or whether something they've bought at an online store is a good deal. I haven't done so because those types of questions seem to be more specific and oriented to an individual or small group of people rather than everybody in general. Also, with an expanded number of postings on the internet deals forum, a question like that or maybe even a good deal quickly disappears to another page. I know from experience that many of the members of this forum are very helpful, and I like to think that I'm helpful, and would be willing to answer any questions that I can when I'm not pressed for time (and there are some days when I'm lucky if I have 5 extra minutes). Perhaps a separate forum would keep those questions from disappearing quickly. Again, just my 2 cents.

Michlynn ~
I for one feel that if you are looking for deals on specific things and want the input of other DOD members, then you should post in the General Chit Chat area. I am not the moderator for this forum but that is how I feel. I often check in there to see if there are questions on where to locate a bargain as I might be looking for the same thing or I might know the answer.

The moderators of the Gen Chit Chat forum would need to answer if that is allright but I highly doubt that it will be a problem. Just remember to use that beautiful blue question mark icon when you have a question and everyone should be happy.
