eBay tips

Okay, it's been about 3 years since I've sold anything on eBay. We are due in Sept. with baby #3 and it's a boy so it's time to let go of my girls's clothes. I've already gone through them, packed a box of clothes up for each of my girls and have also set aside some clothes for two friends (one just had a girl a month ago, and the other is due in July). I still have 5 boxes of clothes - all for eBay! I'm going to have to wash it all and see what really wouldn't be ebay worthy, but most of it is still in great shape - some new with tags. I would have liked to have passed on more to my friends, but a lot of it is off season to their girls and my main motivation is to make money to buy my oldest school clothes & supplies (she'll be starting Kindergarten in the fall) as well as put money away for extras for during the year (teacher gifts, Valentines, contribute for class parties, etc. ).

Now that I've rambled on (LOL), it's been quite a while since I've been an eBay seller and I'm looking for some tips on getting started back up.

What picture hosting sites are out there (free?)?

Have there been any big changes to eBay that I should be aware of?

Should I stick with PayPal as form of payment or use BillPoint?

Any other tips or ideas you'd like to share?

TIA!

Suzanne

Unless you are just wanting to just give it away it may not be worth your time to put it on e-bay. I tried doing that with some of my kids things and it didnt' work out very well. What they sold for was cheaper than the S/H and then there was my time I spent getting it all cleaned and boxed and well....you get the picture. Good luck to you if you decide this is the way for you to go.

Personally I suggest a consignment store. You get more for your items there and you don't have to fool with pricing them or with the public. The owner of the store does all of that. I know.....I own one plus I have ALWAYS taken my clothes to them and got pretty good.

I have a 3 yr old son and 7 yr old daughter and if you have any sizes in 3t boys or 6x/7 in girls I might be interested. Just let me know. You can "E" me at [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now]

As a frequent buyer on eBay - I prefer to buy clothes in lots. Same-sized lots of similar items.

Like same brands
All pants
All shirts
All outfits
etc.

That way too you don't have 57 boxes to ship out with one item in each box. Sure, you might make a little more that way, but I think items sell better in lots.

The new with tags items usually sell well on their own.

Paypal and Billpoint attract buyers - I like both and use both when buying.

I'm not sure about what photo hosting places to use. I usually just use the eBay option of one free photo when I sell.

You might want to check out others' auctions, and if they use a photo host, sometimes their banner is on the auction description.

Best of luck!

Rae Ann

there was a big thing on how to sell on ebay here a few months back, but since the search isn't working i can't find it. I have looked, but haven't been able to locate. So i am hoping that when we get back to normal with the search feature i will be able to locate it. If anyone else out there has the link to the ebay tips please post.

Thank you all for the info and the link! I wasn't quite sure if there had been major changes for sellers since it's been so long since I've sold items on eBay. I am looking to basically unload the items, with the whole intention of using the money to buy my dd school clothes. I know that a lot of them are in great shape and I really did enjoy being a seller on eBay, so I'm looking forward to actually doing it again. Being a SAHM, it gave a me a sense of productivity! The girl clothes I have are up to 2T. The consignment shops around here don't give much in the way of cash (in between garage sale and eBay), you do better if you exchange the items for store credit, but I'm not looking to do that.

And Rae Ann, I agree on the lots. As a buyer, that's what I would look for and planning on doing with a lot of the items I want to sell except for the items I have a feel for would do well individually or in outfits.

Thanks for the offer, Miranda, but I'm not looking to trade. I already have quite a bit of boy hand-me-downs from family and friends and am set until he's about 3 or 4! LOL! Plus trading would defeat the purpose of my intentions to use the money to buy dd school clothes. The whole idea for me is to get dd set for school without it touching dh's paycheck. Thanks for the offer, though.

Since search isn't working I went thru Kim Everett-Martin's posts. I knew she'd posted in that thread and you can still search if you know at least one person who posted in the thread you are looking for. Just click on their name (in one of the forums) and then on search for all posts by this user. You can also click on search under a post they have made within a thread. HTH.

BTW-You're welcome!

Rolling eyes

SOmething to consider is donating the items to charity. The tax write-off can far exceed any amount of workyou do, income you recieve. Most tax preparers have a list of what you can write off for each item....you might be pleasantly surprised and they will go to a good cause.....

You're right. We're having a garage sale in July as well. We like to keep them rather short, like 6 am to 1 pm and usually whatever is left we will donate. With the items I want to eBay, who knows, some just may not sell and then I'll just donating those as well.
