Are you strict about the clothes your kids wear?

Are you strict about the clothes your kids wear?

My mom never was/is. I usually tend to wear baggier clothes becuase they are more comfortable. My mom loved it and still loves it becuase she feels

1: our freedom of expression
2: tight clothes attract more guys and usually the guys will go for you just cause of your body
3: baggier clothes leave more to the imagination

My mom is VERY open to the way we expresss ourselves.
She always let us dye our hair, get piercings, get tatoos (none of us have tatoos but we could if we wanted), dress how we want to etc.
Becuase she feels that she wants us to be able to express our indiviuality and she will not say anything because she wants us to know she will always be on our side.

Plus, kids are gonna do what they want to do anyway. So, instead of us hiding it from her she would rather know about it.

I think that when I have kids, I will do the same. Be open about things. We have a great relationship. I think that part of it has to do with her being open like she is.

Now do you agree or disagree?
What do you allow your kids to wear or how do they express their individuality?

Well, obviously I let my kids wear what they want. LOLOL gets me in trouble too!
I figure they have to decide for themselves how they want to project their image to the world and it's not for me to say once they are teens. The boys prefer baggie oversized stuff and Liz prefers uh...formfitting clothes (hehe thats a good description).
Whatever they are happy and comfortable wearing is okay by me. I don't even shop with em anymore. Drop em at the mall and let em pick out their own stuff.

Don't have kids, but if I did, I'd let them express their individuality, but to a point. I mean, if they were girls and wanted to wear midriff tops to school, then the answer would be no. If I had boys, well, same thing would apply, but within limits. Those baggy pants they wear these days are just butt ugly, make them look ridiculous. I'm sure there are other clothes out there that they could wear so they'd still be considered cool by their friends.

yep, I'm strict. My boys dress in appropriate clothes, when out in public. Not to tight, not to loose. When they can pay for thier clothes themselves and don't live with me, they can chose what they want to wear, BUT as long as I am paying for them, they dress the way I want them to.

PS. Couldn't vote as this wasn't an option.

Continuing to earn the "mean mommy" award. My dd is 11 and she wears what I believe to be age appropriate clothing. No mid-riffs, no tube tops ( I don't think these are any age appropriate), no spaghetti straps. Like Becky said, when my daughter grows up, lives on her own and buys her own clothes it will be up to her. Until then, Mom's rules.

Well this doesn't apply to me now, but when I was married, I allowed my step-daughter reasonable leeway with her wardrobe. I happen to wear baggier, loose clothing myself.

Lately the "tighter" clothing has been "in fashion" and that's what most of the kids were wearing. So who was I to say anything. The school had dress rules, so she never wore that type of clothing at school. It was mainly weekend wear stuff.

I thought she looked good (as in flattering) in that type of clothing and nothing she ever bought was outlandish enough that I felt I had to say anything to her about it.

Well, my kids are only 5 & 6 (soon to be 7), so we don't have much of an issue on the clothes yet.
But I really don't care much what they wear. As long as Michelle's butt isn't hanging out or she's not showing anything else inappropriate, I'll be happy.

My mom was really strict on me and I hated it. She put me in the most conservative, baggiest fitting clothes there was. Really, I hated running around in jeans that were 2 sizes too big, leggings that were too big and had to be rolled to keep them at my waist, and tops so large I could have gained 100 pounds and nobody ever notice. And dresses and skirts? Heaven forbid if they showed off my knees! EEK! How terrible! I think my mother was just a little too extreme on this, don't you?

Well, just call me old-fashioned, but I think some of the things kids wear are terrible. My Mom never really told me what to wear, but I always liked wearing jeans and tshirts(and this is my favorite ourfit to this day)--so guess she never had any reason to worry. I just hate to see young girls half naked and those jeans guys wear--pockets down to their knees--I've always wondered how they keep those dang things up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

my parents were so cool, they let me where whatever I wanted. I guess they didn't mind because I was a tomboy and for the longest time I wore just jeans and tees. In my senior year in high school I mostly wore tight jeans and small tops. Hey, I had the body, why not? They let me choose what I thought was appropriate, and I didn't buy tops that showed too much. (by "small tops" I mean ones that showed the belly, not cleavage.)

I'm not incredibly strict about what the older ones wear - our youngest is 4 & obviously has no real choice in what I buy. My philosphy has always been that as long as the clothing is clean and appropriate for the occasion, then it's not a problem for them to wear it.

But, my kids also know that there is a clothing budget - so if they want the latest style, it's up to them to make up the difference. Our DD never thought that labels were important enough to pay the difference (that & she could always borrow from my closet), but our older son decided that he had to have a certain sneaker this year & gladly forked over a full month's pay from his paper route to pay the difference.

Talking couldn't vote either....

mine are 5 and 3 so not teens yet..

my son wears the baggier jeans, not the super baggy but still kinda "skater" baggy...mostly because i HATE and i mean HATE tight jeans on guys...must be something about the era i grew up in but i just think tight jeans on guys looks RIDICULOUS...so gavin wears jeans like his dad...baggy other than that i dress him like a typical little boy....

skylar is my princess...she'd wear a sissy-froo-froo-puffed-sleeve-cinderella dress EVERYday if i let her...she has some "stylish" clothes like bell-bottom jeans and glittery (or "parkly" as she would say it lol) shirts...but mostly i dress her like a little girl...

when my kids are teen-agers and grown i have no idea how i'll be...my parents let me wear whatever i wanted to...even dying my hair purple didn't faze 'em....BUT i was never one to wear revealing clothes mostly because i didn't have anything TO reveal LOL!! i wore belly shirts/baby tees but not many "cleavage' shirts lol...so as long as they don't try to walk outta my house wearing nothing but a strip of material over their chest and a strip of material barely covering their nether regions i guess we'll be ok LOL...but i try not to think about it too much cuz there's just something about that teen-ager mentality of "my parents are SOOOOOOOOOOOOO lame" that makes me wanna keep 'em babies forever LOL
