Question What the heck kind of illness is going round?

Man oh man, I have had this cough deep in my throat for 2 weeks now. I can't get rid of it for nothing. I probably should go get tested for strep or something. Did take my kids in last week, (well dh did while I was at work) and they are on antibiotics. But even my dh has this cough. Ugh. I know others are sick too here and just wondering what is going around.? Or are we all cybersick?? haha

Last week, four of the five members of my family were all sick with cough, fever, and chills. We went to the doc and he said we had a viral infection(well, duh). So, after rounds of antibiotics we're finally better. I have not been so sick in a while. Wed. of last week, I fell asleep at 4 PM and woke up at 8 AM Thursday. We're better now though. Hope your cough goes away!

I don't know what it is, but I want it GONE. I've had it since last Thursday or Friday. The cough just keeps getting worse. Now I'm coughing junk up....I've been in bed (for the most part) for 2 days. Waiting for my OB's office to call me back to see what I can do. YUCK!!

Oh that stuff is ugly...the weekend my DH got home in Jan...me and my DD was sick with this stuff...took two weeks to get rid of my cough and breath...I had a sore throat and cough and stuffy nose...my DD poor thing..had the same stuff...but ended up with and ear ache that took two different antibiotics and drops to get rid of...now DS has gotten a touch of it again. I hear it is really easy to go back around a second time...so please take care. I also picked up some sort of flu bug last week, that made me light headed and nauseated...and extremly tired. But feeling better this week.

I think everyone's immune system is a bit down from all the stress from Sept. on...and the viruses are takeing advantage...

GET WELL EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!

Me too!!! I finally got all better - so I thought. My nasty cough that required prescription medicine I thought was gone, but between yesterday and today? Yuck! This cough keeps coming back to haunt me!!! I've been coughing and coughing and coughing today! Seems like I'm going to cough something up, but nothing ever comes. I have to see my OB today, so I will ask her what she thinks of it.

Hey all you sickies! Please feel better soon. I got lucky w/the cough thing that's been going around here for 3 months now. Just had minor fluy bouts here and there... nothing materialized. Still fighting major tiredness at times though. Please feel better soon.... Advice:

Take echinechea all winter long - in addition take Vit C, a multiple, and anything else you normally use as supplements.

I take Ginseng, E, Vit C, Multiple and Echinechea (w/o Goldenseal) all year 'round.

Drink at the very least ONE GALLON of water/24 hr. This really helps. Thins out any mucous/phlegm in system... pulls out any bad junk inside the body with lot of pee (that slows down after a week to normal peeing) reduces water retention and generally keeps the skin/hair and nails moisturized a bit.

Try to get outside at least once a day even in cold weather. Get out of your heated environment. If you can... sleep w/a window cracked a bit at night. Too much indoor heated air is not healthy.

Wash and wash and wash your hands. Oprah's show recommends singing a song (I think it is Row Row Row your boat song or the Happy Birthday song) from beginning to end. Most don't wash long enough. Scrub underneath the nails. Germs collect there too.

Keep your fingers and toes out of your eyes, nose and mouth.

If you happen to be near sick people the best thing you can do is wash your hands often. Also... germs can be active on inanimate objects like paper for ex., for a few hours. After getting your mail and reading it wash your hands again. Use hot water and lots of soap.

I've become obsessed with staying healthy. I think I've accomplished a huge part of that w/vitamin supplements, water, and hand washing. (No... I don't have OCD!) lol

Another thing that helped me is to stop running to the dr for anti-bios everytime I was sick. This was out of necessity and not my choice after I became anti-bio resistant and the drugs contributed to super-infection that wasn't curable with meds.

Hope this helps... It took me a while to realize all this is helping.
I also don't drink anything carbonated, limit coffee to one cup in the am, eat no sugar, eat lots of fruits and veggies, limit rice and potatoes, no bread or white flour.

It's been sort of 'proven' - when one is depressed or anxious the immune system is compromised and sickness will be more frequent, last longer and be more resistant. Try to belly laugh (guffaw!) at least once a day. This all helped me.

Oh, NOW I get it!

No one ever told me before to keep my toes out of my nose!!!! Jeez, if only I had known, I would not be so sick so much!

LMBO! Just razzing ya! I only wish I could make myself drink that much water. All of those things are smart to do. Great advice.

I've heard Echinachea is not supposed to be taken long term, only for a few days when you first feel the symptoms of a cold starting.
And garlic capsules are good for helping heal the respiratory system, like for coughs. Both of these help me alot when I start feeling sick, plus Zinc for sore throat problems.

You're right about taking the echinechea all the time. However I take one capsule daily. (Bottle says to take 4) The regimen I've been on has kept me from getting the usual amount of illness I get every single winter and summer. I've been 'under the weather' off and on, but nothing as serious or longterm as before. One person at GNC told me I could take the echinechea as long as it had no goldenseal. Out here, the dr's even recommend taking 4 C's in the summer to combat the effects of the heat/sun. I don't do that. The Zinc is terrific if you have a sore throat and it will help if you start in right away. I also have used that. I get my Zinc from Walgreens, comes in a bottle, is chewable. Bottle has 60 tabs and is about $6.00. Lots cheaper than buying the cough drops in a package.

Whatever works, eh? The only thing I'm doing differently is:
I continue taking the regimen even if I feel sick. I don't stop.
And.. I've become convinced that they do help. Before I'd take not take, take, etc. On and off - tried different combos of supplements. After many years of experimenting I finally found what works for me. Everyone is different.

I've had a history of illnesses from the day I was born.

Unhappy

I've had it three times since the beginning of January. Being preggo my Dr wont let me take much. Sad to say the only thing that will put this kid to sleep once she comes out is me coughing probably!LOL! I'm so tired of being sick.First my 4 year old caught it, then me, then dh (his turned into an ear infection), then my 8 yr old had it. I'm the only one it keeps coming back to. My Dr tried antibiotics but he said it must be viral bronchits because the antibiotics didnt do squat. Like being pregnant wasn't uncomfortable enough...ugh! Only 7 more weeks to go!!

Spoke to my mom earlier and we got talking about this Cough that's going around. She's a nurse and works in a hospital in Virginia - she said a lot of the doctors have it themselves and they can't figure out what it is!!! She told me one of the girls she works with has been fighting it since December! Now that's weird and kind of scary that even a doctor who's come down with it himself can't figure out what it is!
Ugh... I hate this cough and wish it would just go away. It HURTS to cough! I still have some of that prescription Robitussin with Codeine, but I wonder if I ought to take it. It makes me feel sick and puts the baby to sleep, but I didn't cough one bit when I was on it. If this cough keeps up like it is, I will ask my OB what they think. I've only got about 5-6 more weeks left to go too, but I sure would like to be rid of this cough before the baby comes. I wouldn't want her to end up with it!

You know another thing I find odd about this? The fact that it seems to be everywhere all at the same time rather than one localized area. You know what I mean? Strange Strange Strange.....

It is VERY Strange. Even stranger is I didn't get it. I'm not trying to be cute. I catch almost everything going around. My friend has had this since Dec., coughs all the time. Dr put her on different meds, an inhaler, etc. Nothing works. I feel so bad for all the folks who have had it, can't get rid of it or got rid of it and it came back. I am thinking like you are... very weird. Something not kosher here.
